Greg Draper scored a hat-trick as The New Saints FC wrapped up the Welsh Premier League title with an emphatic 5-0 victory against last season's champions Bangor City FC.
TNS celebrate their latest title triumph
The New Saints FC regained the Welsh Premier League title with a decisive 5-0 final-day victory at Park Hall against last season's champions Bangor City FC.
Just as a year ago, the top two teams met to contest a last-day decider but this time it was the Oswestry club, winning the title for the sixth time, who prevailed, three early goals leaving Bangor all but defeated before the interval.
Greg Draper was TNS's chief inspiration, the league's leading scorer firing a hat-trick to take his tally in the competition to 25. He opened the scoring in the fourth minute after being sent clear of the Bangor defence and followed up with a neat lob over goalkeeper Lee Idzi before heading into an empty net.
Christian Seargeant had made it 2-0 direct from a free-kick and it became four in the 62nd minute when a twisting run by Ryan Fraughan was finished off with an emphatic shot. Draper completed the rout with a penalty nine minutes from time after Alex Darlington had earlier missed from the spot.
It was a triumph for TNS director of football Craig Harrison who was appointed manager last December and who can make it a double in his first season in charge when his side take on Afan Lido FC in the Welsh cup final on 5 May.
"I came to the club to win things and it's a great feeling," Harrison said. "We scored at important times in the game and took the stuffing out of it. We've got good experienced players but also young players coming through with great talent so hopefully we can go from strength to strength."
Not sure if anyone here cares but these guys play in England. The final totals are 23-5-4 with 75 goals scored and 31 goals against.
I hope the lads have fun tonight because I do not think TNS has a license for next at the current moment.
