FIFA Scrap Short Term Loans Empty FIFA Scrap Short Term Loans

Post by crump Thu Feb 16, 2012 3:42 am

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/news/8969167/Football-League-clubs-dealt-huge-blow-after-Fifa-decides-emergency-loans-contravene-its-rules.html

FIFA have scrapped short term loans.

It's bad for the Football League because sometimes goalkeepers get injured and they need a loan player.

It's bad for the Premiership because it'll stop young players going on loan to the Football League and getting experience infront of crowds in a competitive match which benefits a lot of young players. If it didn't Prem managers wouldn't be so willing to send them out on loan.

This could have a knock on affect for the national team as well.

Fifa has delivered a major setback to Football League clubs with a ruling that will outlaw the emergency loan system under which as many as 400 players move clubs each season.

Fifa’s ruling surprised the League and the Football Association, which were told that the issue was of concern in Zurich only six weeks ago.

on topic, this is actually a disgraceful decision, it's so practical for the lower league clubs when somebody gets injured during the season to get a short-term loan deal of a fringe player from a PL club. Also getting the PL teams' youth players some experience like Aneke who is at Stevenage atm.

Yeah exactly, it's in a way, stunting the growth of youngsters as they won't be getting a better chance of first team football.

It's also helpful for big clubs when a player has been injured they would send him on loan for 2-3 months in order to regain fitness at a slightly lower level of intense football.

Probably gonna get flamed for this but I think it's the right decision, the ability loan players in/out outside of the transfer window just defeats the purpose of having a window. If players are injured etc. Its the clubs fault for not having enough in the squad.

Also it might help youth players (albeit not as much as loans) because instead of getting shipped out to a shit club they will have more opportunities to prove they can play at a high level.

I don't agree with the outcome, but it did say they're going to do research about whether people think they should loosen the rules. If you read the article they say they aren't actually changing the rules, they only just realized they were enforcing them incorrectly.

Bad news for us and it could hamper the England set up. We were the first club to give England Under 21 keeper Jack Butland his football league debut and in the three months he was with us, we had scouts from the likes of Arsenal at Whaddon Road to watch him play. I'm sure the experience of competitive football has helped him as a player.
