Bayern helped Dortmund avoid bankruptcy with loan

DORTMUND, Germany (AP) -- Borussia Dortmund's president has confirmed his side received a 2 million euros ($2.6 million) loan from Bundesliga rival Bayern Munich to help stave off bankruptcy.

Bayern president Uli Hoeness revealed details of the 2003 loan at a fans' meet in Hamburg over the weekend.

Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke tells the Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper, "Yes, I can confirm a loan.''

Dortmund flirted with bankruptcy in the seasons after its 2002 Bundesliga success, only pulling back from the brink in early 2005.

Defending champion Dortmund leads the Bundesliga by two points from Bayern.

Bayern seem to do this a lot, I remember reading up on them how they've been helping keep their rivals 1860 alive over the last few years with loans

Just so you know, Bayern aren't a charity organization . They do this in their own interest, might have to do with Lewandowski, Götze or Hummels but I'm not quite sure yet.

Dortmund were close to bankruptcy several times, they completely rebuilt the team, promoted youngsters including Götze, Grosskreutz, got talents on the cheap (Hummels, Bender) and scouted in Japan's 2nd division (Kagawa). They had to do it, since they didn't have any money left.

Why are you being retarded in replying to vivarooney's post? He isn't talking about the recent title win. If you read the thread, this is talking about the title win in 2002.

How much did they spend?

Bayern spent and spend, a LOT more than Dortmund do/did, and still didn't win the league...

This is great from Munich, also means that Dortmund can hold on to their star players for at least a season or two, then Goetze and Kagawa will probably be sold
