7 points. When Sunderland beats Arsenal in their next league match, it will be smaller.

Re: Sunderland: Top Four?
Sunderland could finish in European spots. They have a better manager than Liverpool are actually playing as a team. Similar to Newcastle.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic. If Dalglish is such a bad manager then why aren't you all complaining.
It's obvious to any unbiased person that he is stuck back in the 1990's, but certain people haven't seen that.

Yeah, I think they have an excellent chance. There are only 5 teams they need to overtake, and Chelsea are only 9 points ahead of them.

Is this Bendtner starting this?
He said a few weeks after he came to Sunderland that they have the quality to qualify for Champions League.
When he is back, top 3 finish surely. Mask and all

Challenging for 6th/7th doesn't relatively cost too much. But to challenge for the top 4 you need to spend a lot of money.....over £100m just for starters.

Over what period of time? Tottenham for one aren't massive spenders.

It doesn't necessarily matter over what time period.
Spurs are big spenders, one of the biggest in the league...which is why they are up there. Not just in transfer fees, but in wages too. Remember that it's not just the fees that matter...sometimes you can get big players on the cheap, but you still have to be able to afford their massive wages.
Obviously picking out bargains at a young age can be beneficial too.....but that's not always going to work....and nowadays young players aren't always that cheap.

I disagree. Spurs are no ManCity, Real Madrid, or Barca when it comes to spending, but they spent over £155M in the 3 previous seasons.

Whats their net spend?
They got 50 million alone for Berbatov and Keane

Re: Sunderland: Top Four?
Even if Spurs have done well with selling their players, that doesn't take away from the fact that they have spent big....they are just getting good prices for their players when/if they move on. Can a team like Sunderland really take that financial risk in the hope that they can make that money back by selling their players for more or through increased revenue?

Negative. They spent over £100M the season they sold Berbatov.

The idea is to sell before you buy.

You can't expect to sustainably work on that basis.
If you sell players, then the only ones who will get you any money are your best players. How can you improve without your best players?
You could try and sign even better players/younger prospects for cheaper....but that's going to be hit and miss, plus you get a bad reputation as a team lacking ambition and as a selling club.

Spurs sold Berbatov and brought in Van Der Vaart for 1/3 of what they got for Berbatov.

Berbatov left - 2008
VDV joined - 2010
You can't really take those two transfers and be so minimalistic....so much else happened before Berbatov, when he was there, afterwards and since VDV has been here. Obviously it's a good bit of business getting VDV in comparison to what they sold Berbatov for....but that isn't the story of Spurs. You can't do that all the time....selling players for £30m and buying equal players for £10m.
