I know he was in firefights with them though. He told me on one patrol they got attacked from multiple sides so him and another Marine had to run down into a ditch apart from the rest of them. It was next to a huge corn field and bullets were going everywhere so they unloaded 18 rounds with an RPG on them and blew just about everything they could see up until the shots stopped coming at them.
