The Language Thread

I have noticed that quite a few people can speak multiple languages on here. Give out tips, advise for or against learning a specific language, anything.

What do you guys think about bilinguals in the workplace? How much more respected are they (or not) in contrast to those who aren't?

I am sure I, Rolo and Che can help anyone out with Spanish...

Only thing I remember from 9th grade Spanish is sharpener

Indeed so, it also improves chances of getting a job

Shame that I only know 1 other (Greek) outside of fairly useless ones like Ancient Greek or Latin, not fluently.

I speak English and Greek fluently. Understand lots of Serbian and Italian too, don't speak much though. Better at Serbian than Italian

I tried to teach myself German once. That failed horribly.

Old English, Middle English, and Pre-Modern English. I wish.

Would like to learn Russian, alphabet looks cool.

My Arabic lessons for Rolo sort of died out. It's a tough language to learn, so it needs lots of dedication.

Glad a thread like this was made.

I've been trying to learn Catalan, Quechua, and Latin recently.

I can't motivate myself with Catalan because I can already understand it almost perfectly and I just don't see to have time.

Quechua, I have made progress, but there's just nowhere, at all, to practice.

Latin is hard as fuck balls.

German and English fluently, quite a bit of French and a bit of Spanish. A few words of Shona too

I agree, Latin is tough Rolo. The construction method was tough to get my head around.

I can some the equivalent of "Come on!", "Get in!", "'ave it!", etc. in multiple languages.

Around here knowing (and speaking) languages like Polish and Romanian can be a negative in the workplace .

I do want to learn Spanish though, I wish I went further with it when I was younger. Might still end up learning it but not sure if I have the ability/commitment/money (to travel n shit) to do it.

I speak Greek and English fluently,and I also know some german.

I also want to learn swedish.
