The Holiday/Travel thread
A thread where we can all give each other recommendations, and if we've been to a place someone is asking about, we can tell them about it!
So, has anyone ever been to Benalmadena?

Re: The Holiday/Travel thread
Cyprus is still in my opinion the best vacation spot.
I've been to Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas, Dominica, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Cancun, Margarita and los roques.
Los Roques is actually the best vacation spot IMO but there are no hotels there and nobody goes there. (They are islands near Aruba controlled by Venezuela) I'm only privileged to have been there due to the family business.

Stockholm is a splendid city, attractive women a plenty and a nice climate in the summer. And once you leave Stockholm to explore the rest of Sweden your met with miles of dense wilderness full of interesting species, magnificent country

Went on a cruise from Athens -> Crete -> Cyprus -> Alexandria -> Israel -> Cyprus -> Athens. Had a fantastic time and fell in love with Cyprus. Since then, I've been back to the island thrice.
I would one day like to invest in a cottage on the island, preferably around the outskirts of Limassol. I love the idea of being able to go swimming and 2 hours later go skiing in the mountains and the beaches are fantastic.

Why? It's 36+ degrees nonstop all day, all year, you'd die.Jordi wrote:I'd like to go to Maracaibo one day.
Avoid Maracaibo, everyone there is super fat because it is too hot to walk so they sit down in the shade drinking corona all day. Also there is always the chance that you can turn into a mutant by swimming in Lake Maracaibo.

Excellent thinking, Polska. I like the idea, I have family in several of the Greek island. And a flat in Athens, in case I move back. As for Cyprus; been a few times. I can see why you love it, not my favourite place, though.
I hated Prague.

Avoid Caracas unless you want to have bullet holes in your chest.Jordi wrote:Where's best in Venezuela? Caracas?Lus Suarez wrote:Why? It's 36+ degrees nonstop all day, all year, you'd die.

Margarita is traditionally the touristy area of Venezuela, though I know people who have lived there complain about it being unbearably hot all the time and about crime rising in the cities, but it should be alright for a week vacation in the sun in the hotel areas.
The city I lived in, Merida, is also fantastic. Also since it is in the mountains, you won't die of heat like in the rest of the country. Merida is unique in that it's kept it's colonial architecture, and you could do lots of neat stuff like Canyoning, Paragliding, as well as visit high up in the mountains through the Teleferico (which will hopefully be fixed by then). You could also arrange with one of the tourist agencies in Merida to go to Barinas and you can go down a boat ride on a big river and see all sorts of wildlife (awesome, I recommend you do this in winter though) as well as go rafting (which is simply awesome, but summer only) or tubing (only in winter) down a river.
There are other things to do as well such as visiting Catatumbo which I've done and is pretty cool. You could also go to Angel Falls and other Amazon crap, but I've never been there.
As far as cities go, all Venezuelan cities are dangerous shitholes, though I did get more of a positive vibe in Valencia than anywhere else. Don't see why you would go shopping there though as Margarita Islands is tax-free.

Polska, I was under the impression Caracas was quite a developed, cosmopolitan city and was relatively safe in comparison to the rest of the South American cities?
I really want to visit Isla de Margarita & Salto Ángel.
Anyone here ever been to Zante? Laganas specifically.

Benalmádena is beautiful place, i've only been twice but it's a very nice place to visit, reminds me of Rome in Italy for some reason, beautiful beaches and right near the beautiful sea. are you planning to go there?

Like Ben, I thought Caracas was quite developed and safe city. Margarita does look good though. I'm interested in VZ because I played a game set there.

Caracas is a dangerous shithole slum and among the most dangerous city in the world.
It is a developed city yes, but only for the rich, walled neighborhoods.

Re: The Holiday/Travel thread
If you want my honest opinion, if you come to Venezuela only to sunbathe on the beaches of Margarita, you are wasting your time in Venezuela.
The beaches are amazing yes, but there is so much things to do in the country, you could be missing out on the biggest experience of your lifetime.
Also I forgot to mention in my last post, another neat thing to do in Venezuela is visit the tiny desert of Coro:
