Why couldn't you do both?

I remember beating all my teachers apart from 1, my art teacher. Always lost to him. But yeah, I was really good, even entered tournaments.

If i wanted to play chess then i had to go after school practice but i started playing basketball after school. It looked a lot better for me to be shit at basketball rather than be good at chess.

For a short period in highschool I was part of the chess club.

I once got elected by my classmates, although I didn't want to do it. I had to go on educational trips and stuff and have milk and digestive biscuits with year 7's.

I once ran for school councillor however before I was about to make my speech to the public, I was shot 5 times by a revolver, was in the hospital for a week, complete miracle I survived but unfortunately I missed the elections
