Would you want your team to be Man City style rich?
Guest- Guest
Me and some mates were having a discussion on whether we would want the teams we supported (Villa, Baggies, and Wolves) to be Man City rich?

Depends on who is the owner and how the money would be spent.
Stan Valckx would create a state of the art youth academy and facilities in Krakow with that money I am certain, but what about our hypothetical owner?
If our current owner was to be that rich then yes. He is one of the richest guys in Poland already and could easily give the money to allow Wisla to spend over 15M per player but he is not like that. He (with the direction from Stan Valckx) is creating a sustainable Wisla who can in the future compete in Europe and profit and I would imagine he would keep on that course if he was Man City rich.

No, I would be disgusted if we tried to buy success.

Definitely. Money's the only way teams can compete at the top these days. There will never be a Forest or a Derby making it to the latter stages and even winning the European Cup ever again.
I would like to have 100% reassurance that the owner has full interest in the club and is in it for the long haul though. People always seem to say Man City's owner will get bored, but from what I've heard of him through media articles and such, he seems like a genuine guy with a good interest in both the club and community. I heard he's the one paying for all the development in the area around Eastlands? I might be wrong.

If your team got taken over by our owners I seriously doubt you'd be complaining.

I say No.
All my other mates, except one Wolves fan, said Yes.

Nah a bit of money would be nice but I like the way the club is run. Lower wage cap than teams like Sunderland, Newcastle and Vill (I think )

I could bring in 5 world class players for 200m, but I'd rather spend 15m bringing in a 18 year old

It would be nice, but I'd miss a few things.
-Seeing players break through regularly and hoping for others to, eg Ferguson, Sammy, Vuckic etc.
-The likes of Shola getting game time, as you can't help but love him.
-Our bargain spotting.
But yeah, think I could live without them if it meant we won a few titles, although it would mean I get classed as a glory hunter for life

Hell yes.....we can't even afford £1m......
Being in a position where ANY good player you have leaves either because they want to go or because we force them to go due to the transfer fee.....our wage cap is £5k . Also we only have 3 stand and can't afford a fourth.....
But yeah, I would want it even if I was a Man Utd fan. Who wouldn't want an owner who splashes so much money on players, development and facilities...and expects no money in return? Much better than cheap or greedy owners......
Also, you have to buy success these days, no exceptions so pretending to have the moral high ground is stupid.

Well obviously. Anyone who says no is just jealous of City.
The only bad thing is, I guess it will affect the youth coming through but fuck them, Success>careers.

Would you really want to be known as the team who bought success though?

Doubt it, we pay everyone in peanuts now.

No, unless Messi suddenly became Mexican it wouldn't really matter.

Rather be known as a team who bough success than a team full of bottlers who haven't won anything for 10 years.IIBentII39 wrote:Would you really want to be known as the team who bought success though?

Yes, cause that's what I will be thinking about when my team has won various league and CL titles.IIBentII39 wrote:Would you really want to be known as the team who bought success though?

Judging by how well Leicester are doing, then no. Not while we are in the Championship anyway, I want to see this bunch of players seal promotion.
My mind would likely change if we went up seeing as we wouldn't be able to compete with Bates refusing to spend. Although seeing as we won't get taken over, then it'd be interesting to see what Bates spending plans were if we were to go up.

No Karl Oyston maybe tight when it comes to giving us money. But when he took over Blackpool we never had any money problems.

Obviously. Who wouldn't? I'd want our spending to be sensible and I'd still like us to try to implement a policy of self-sustainability. There is, however, no loss whatsoever in knowing that the money is there if it's ever needed.
