Been having a discussion about Sir Alexander in the the Man Utd thread, thought I'd broaden the debate out. I know a lot of Liverpool fans have things to say about some senile, obese alcoholic being better than him for a start, as well as that over-rated fool Bill Shankly (6 major trophies in 25 years management) - there's also the likes of Clough, Saachi, Cruyff, Guardiola and Mourinho who (probably) have their advocates on here.

Went for other, just because I think he is one of the best managers of all time, but not the best.

Obviously you vote for the highest one you think he is.

One of the all time greats, for sure. Like you have highlighted though RR, he isn't as perfect as some mancs would like to believe. Still, can't argue he's right up there.

If the options are intended to be in descending order in terms of greatness then this is a terrible poll.

True, but Wigan would never be where they are now without Roberto Martinez, Bolton would never be where they are now without Samuel Allardyce.

I'd have to call him the greatest manager of all-time, but that's quite subjective, as everyone can look out for different things when thinking of a great manager.
Anyway, I'd regard him as the greatest ever for his team building, and the way he has been able to adapt to the changes of the game since he first started out in management. Back when he started out, players weren't even earning £250,000 a year, nevermind per week. Many of the great managers haven't had to cope with changes to the level that Fergie has. Managers who have had to adapt to change generally haven't coped as well with it as Fergie has.
On the matter of team building, I refer to the way he has been able to build a team, rip the core of it apart and build a new team. The example of getting rid of three major players and replacing them with inexperienced youngsters back in 1995 may be the most notable one, however there have also been other examples of this as well.
Obviously though, he is far from perfect, and I won't even try to claim that he is perfect, because I know that he has his flaws. Despite that, most great managers have had some sort of notable flaw, so I won't let that bring Fergie down in the slightest.

Well he definitely gets the best out of average to borderline average players, deserves credit in that department.

The man is just a complete Legend, like him or not what he has achieved is just amazing 48 honours as a manager and i would not put it past him to get 50 honours or more before he retires but hopefully not.
He has got to go down as one of the greatest managers ever, even though some clowns want him sacked.

Obviously he is a great manager, but he's no Clough. In the 1980's whilst at Aberdeen, Ferguson turned down the job at Wolves, 'due to their bad situation'. Brian Clough turned a bunch of nobodys into a bunch of world beaters. Sir Alex Ferguson took a bunch of somebodies and made them a little bit better bodys.
I also believe Fergie doesn't have the ability to take over struggling Division 2 sides and turn them into one of the best teams in Europe within the space of 3 years...twice!
