When will Rooney leave?

I know some United fans are happy that Rooney is staying, hell one of my own friends said it feels like they just signed a new player with him resigning (too which I called him a moron for saying). Some of you are saying this was a publicity stunt, others are saying Rooney did it to force United's hand at giving him more money etc.

I am curious though. He seemed very adamant about leaving and Rooney comes across to me as a very bullish person that doesn't get talked into doing anything he doesn't want to do. To me this seems like a temporary fix to a larger issue because I can't see Rooney staying at Manchester United for more than another year or two before being sold. If anything this new deal gives United a lot more power in milking out a super large transfer fee from another club that wants him, or maybe Rooney really does love the club and decided to sign a new deal because it would give the club more power in getting a larger fee.

Thoughts?

Additionally I also find it weird that Rooney said he wasn't hurt recently and yet the very same day he signs a new deal he is suddenly hurt in training and gone for three weeks....

They need all the attacking strikers they can get.

I'm skeptical, I think this deal could of been agreed just for United to be able to get a bigger fee for him next summer without the risk of him not being bought and able to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January 2012.

I hope he does stay, it's good for English football to have the best players.

I think it all depends on how Fergie spends and how well we do as a team, if Fergie buys players in January/next summer there's more chance of him staying, I'm just delighted we've got him down for 5 years, so if we do sell him, it'll be a lot more than what could have been.

I just want to forget about it now, he's signed a 5 year contract, lets get on with the football.

He got injured a couple of days ago.

I think he just wanted to play for Arsenal and when he found out Arshavin would start over him he decided to sign a new deal at United.
