MLS Cup Final Sunday 9:00 PM EST LA Galaxy v Houston Dynamo

Game is being held in the Home Depot Center, LA Galaxy's home stadium. Houston is without the services, literally, of Brad Davis, their MVP candidate with 4 goals and a league leading 16 assists in the regular season, adding two in 3 playoff games.

Houston is 2-0 in MLS Cup Finals, winning in 2006 and 2007, both against the New England Revolution.

LA Galaxy is 2-4 in MLS Cup Finals, winning in 2002 and 2005, while losing in 1996, 1999, 2001 and 2009. Their 4 MLS Cup Final losses is tied for most in league history with the aforementioned New England.

Strangely, I see Houston Dynamo winning. Although they haven't been involved as many MLS Cups as LA Galaxy (6-2) they have yet to lose one, unlike LA who have lost more than half of their matches in competition. Also, whoever wins this will overtake the other with 3:2 championships, one behind the current most successful club in the competition: D.C. United.

L.A Galaxy won the league, right?

You get the Supporters Shield for winning the leauge, but I think(I'm not entirely sure about this, you should ask Steve) MLS treat's it like a lesser trophy than the MLS Cup.

MLS Cup winners are considered MLS Champs.(I'm pretty sure anyways, again Steve would know best)

Of course just because MLS feel's like that it doesn't necessarily mean the fans feel like that.

Blame the mediocrity of the FMF really, the majority of my life I've grown up on the Liguilla system and we don't even have a Supporters Shield style trophy, (or at least nothing as "important")

Lider General is pretty much just for bragging rights up until the Liguilla starts, then it means very little.

Whats great about the Shield is though is that its the Supporters' Shield. The supporters are presented with it every year, and its definitely a bragging point with other teams, especially when some (NY) have never won it.

No, that would be the US Open Cup. The shield is awarded to the team with the most points at the end of the season.

This is just like the promotion playoffs final in England, but rather than playing for promotion this is for the overall championship. Much like the Grand Finale in the A League. I am not sure if we have any Aussies here but those are the best things to compare this to.



The Supporters Shield is handed out so the regular season does not seem worthless. Therefore if the best team loses in the playoffs they still get something for their efforts.

Its still worthless. Shield is nothing. I'll take Cup over Shield every time. You don't even have to finish with a 1.0 Points per game average and be "League Champions". It's so stupid. Until Steve becomes head of USSF, we are stuck though.

To win the shield, you have to be good over the course of the season. You don't even have to win a game to win the cup.
