I definitely think he should have received his marching orders. Gervinho had to go as well, because no matter how minimal the contact was, no matter how over exaggerrated Barton's reaction was, you are not allowed to make contact. Back to what I was saying though, Barton should have also been sent off. He grabbed Gervinho by the throat, when there was absolutely no need to make any contact whatsoever with him.
I was rather bemused when watching the reaction of Pardew after the game. He tried to defend Barton and acted as if the interviewer was wrong for suggesting that Barton deserved to go.
The most shameful act had to go to Alex Song though. Disgusting stamp from him. Wenger has to look at himself if he condemns actions of other teams, but stands for that.

Be nice if football would quit these phaggy rules. If you drag a guy off the floor and start a load of crap you should get in trouble. Whoever took Suarez down should have been sent off, as well.
Just because its the first game of the year, doesnt mean u cant send somebody off, as the ref in the arsenal game showed.

Yes he swiped at him, but the referee gave nothing, so Barton has no need to touch him, yes he was stamped on and frustrated, but I will say it again, So was Sagna, he took it out on someone after, and was shown a red, Barton deserves the same. Just walk away to Barton, and this incident is avoided.

The red card was correct. Joey Barton did nothing wrong. Gervinho was already getting up and Barton just pulled him up. Gervinho instantly fought him. A yellow card for Barton should be the maximum punishment.

I know, but you shouldn't get a red card for being pulled up, by someone frustrated, then you slap him, and he falls over. I mean, why did he not just walk away, he doesn't need to prove a point, it isn't like the longer you stay on the ground, the more chance you have of winning anything that has already been given.
