Suarez could have been gone in January and that probably would have meant a Europa spot for 'pool. No way Henderson can push them through without Suarez.

They should be. It's a farce trying to do it the day before though, it fucks everyone over.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Our draw at WBA doesn't seem so bad now, considering Chelsea were held to the same scoreline last night.
If we win tonight, we could be, at worse, 5 points off the top, or, at best, only 4 points off the top.
25/6 games into the season and we're still serious outsiders/underdogs for the title. Surreal
Usually at this point, 4th place is a mile off.
Will we beat Fulham, though? Would be typical for us to fuck it up after smashing Arsenal.

That doesn't mean much, we've dragged our heels through easy games and dominated some difficult games. We're a bit too unpredictable for my liking.Scott_LFC wrote:3 points behind Arsenal, 4 points behind Chelsea. Run of easy games coming up. Liverpool

Swansea home
Southampton away
Sunderland home
Man United away.
Fully expect 9 points. We'll lose at Southampton. They have our number.

Probably the easiest fixture of the lot. They won't be able to cope with our style of play.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
This morning I've been looking at the headlines and news articles regarding the game against Arsenal yesterday, and pretty much all of them blast Webb's decision not to give the stonewall penalty, and say that Webb "gifted Arsenal the win" or "Arsenal go through, thanks to Webb", etc.
I am gobsmacked. Usually, when a big decision like that doesn't go our way, it's brushed under the carpet and the media scarcely mention it. I am also very surprised that the media are reacting this way, because it's Webb, who's going to the World Cup. Reading the papers this morning, it's almost like a Webb witch-hunt. Did not expect that in the slightest.
Is there a way we can actually get Webb to stop reffing our matches? More often than not, he makes a huge call like that, against us. He robbed us of 2 points against Chelsea with another blatant penalty. If we file an official complaint, or something, won't that mean Webb wouldn't ref our games due to conflict of interest, or whatever?
You just know that he's going to ref our game against Man United. If he does, I don't expect we'll win. If he doesn't, I reckon we'll rape them.
I wonder if Webb will be demoted this weekend, seeing as every time another ref makes a mistake, that's what happens. I bet not

I'm really surprised at how many people have pegged Liverpool for 4th place. Our main competition right now is Tottenham and they're only 3 points below despite having a 'horrible season'. I'm pretty uneasy about this. They only have to better our record for the last 12 games by one win and a draw to snatch 4th. We're in a good position but I'm really pessimistic. I'm just waiting for an inevitable collapse.

Agreed, I'm tired of people saying "I won't take anything less than third." They need to get a grip, we've punched above our weight for much of the season and 4th would be an incredible accomplishment. I think Manchester United is the only rival we can realistically rule out, although even then I'm still going to keep an eye on their results with our interests in mind.Dagbon wrote:I'm really surprised at how many people have pegged Liverpool for 4th place. Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I disagree about punching above our weight. We're capable of giving anyone a proper match. There's no point mentioning what-ifs but we could be in pole position right now if we got some results against lower teams going our way. We've had some results go our way that shouldn't have and some that shouldn't have that did. But I'd say we've been at least the 4th best team in the league this year and that's where we are.Moriarty wrote:Agreed, I'm tired of people saying "I won't take anything less than third." You're probably a right, it's more a matter of Spurs & Manchester United under-performing than anything.

1. The difference between ourselves and Spurs, is mainly the performances. We've been phenomenal the majority of the time, sweeping teams aside, which is reflected in our goal difference (think we're 2nd, only behind Man City). Whereas Spurs have been performing averagely, picking up flukey wins, such as 1-0 victories thanks to a penalty or something. Eventually, their luck will run out. Sherwood is just winging it at the moment. Don't forget, they've still got to come to Anfield, where we've been a force, this season. That'll be our chance to widen the gap.
2. Spurs are in the Europa League. More fixtures, more travelling, bound to take a toll.
3. Spurs have still got to go to Liverpool, Chelsea and Southampton. We may have hard games too, but they're mostly at home. That's advantage, Liverpool. They also have a run of games where a mini collapse is quite possible. Chelsea, Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool, all in succession. Whereas our remaining hard games are quite nicely spread out in comparison. They've also got to go to West Brom, who've taken points off ourselves, Arsenal and Chelsea so far. They have Stoke away, too.
4. Looking at Arsenal's next bunch of fixtures, it wouldn't be surprising if we leapfrog them into 3rd. After their next PL game (Sunderland) It goes like this, Stoke away, difficult FA Cup tie against Everton, Bayern Munich away, Spurs away, Chelsea away, Man City home, Everton away, all in succession. They are more than likely going to be dropping a bunch of points there.
5. Our season has been remarkably consistent. It would take a fuck up of catastrophic proportion to suddenly flop. We're playing the best football we have done for years, and are scoring goals for fun. Last season we finished the season strongly, this year will more than likely be the same. Just look at our team and the way we're playing. Rodgers has done a great job.
6. You say you're worried that we're only 3 points ahead of Spurs. Well, maybe Arsenal should be worried that we're only 3 points behind them. Chelsea should be worried that we're 4 points behind them.
This is the best chance we're going to get in forever to actually put in a title push. If we fucked it up at this point and didn't even finish 4th, then that's a huge, huge failure and we'll never get a chance like this again, I don't think.
Having said all that. I have no idea what's going to happen. Things favour us, though.
