The Human Race Is Doomed

So the other night I watched the movie "Sunshine".. got me thinking about what will actually happen to the sun in the future, did some research.

To explain this as fast as possible..

-Sun is going to shrink then expand, consuming the earth then eventually in around 5 billions years just die.

That means within this time if we do not find a way as a human race to live somewhere else, we are GONE. I always thought a good point of living was that if you did something of significance you could be remembered forever, but alas.. we are doomed.

Humans will probably be extinct before the sun becomes a Red Giant. There are so many ways we could die. I'd imagine an asteroid hitting us and wiping us out is sooner than the sun going Red Giant on us.

I remember how bad I felt when I first heard this.

Surviving the Sun's expansion isn't the main problem, we could probably set up an extra-solar colony in 100 years if we started now, much less several million or billion years. Humanity won't last forever because the universe won't last forever. I hate to say this but the best, in fact the only, hope for humanity lasting for eternity is God.

Fixed. Besides, doesn't your God promise eternal life?

Earth will likely go Venus-style inhospitable long before the Sun turns into a red giant, but we'll have colonised somewhere in the outer solar system if not beyond in a few hundred years or less (if we've not been wiped out of course).

Don't think the human race will be around that long. Also, the Milkyway will crash with Andromeda in 4 billion years
