How many pass to the next round? Is it just the first two of each group, or is it the first 2 and the best 2 3rd place finishers sort of thing?

I believe it's the top 2 teams from each group will advance to the fourth round.

    ---------------------------------------------------

Bolded= who I think will advance.

    Group A
    Guatemala VS Jamaica
    Antigua & Barbados VS USA

    Group B
    El Salvador VS Costa Rica
    Guyana VS Mexico

    Group C
    Canada VS Cuba
    Panama VS Honduras

Canada should probably be able to advance in group C but they've been pretty overwhelming recently.(Can't remember the last time they beat any country whose FIFA Ranking wasn't in the triple digits.) I think Panama pulling an upset is very doable.

Guatemala might also surprise in Group A(although I still find it unlikely they'll advance to the next round ahead of Jamaica) they've been giving some vastly superior(in footballing terms) countries a hard time recently.(Costa Rica and Paraguay)

Also, unfortunately for El Salvador they're in Mexico and Costa Rica's group. In any other group 2nd place would be a possibility.

But yeah., pretty excited. A few of these games will be played in my hometown. So I'll catch a few. che

Yes, top 2 in each group advance to a final group of 6. Top 3 from the final cup go to the world cup and the 4th place team plays a 2-leg tie with the winner of the OFC.

I really hope Canada passes I really want to see them in the last 6, but I see USA & Guatemala passing in Group A. Mexico and Costa Rica in group B and Panama + Honduras.

Not so fast, the referee in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup final is in charge in Guatemala next week. We may be playing against 12 in Central America which always includes a rather hostile crowd.

Well we haven't played many teams higher than 100 recently, or many games period.

Last 7 games vs. teams ranked 100 or higher:

    Canada 0-0 USA (June 3, 2012)
    Armenia 3-1 Canada (Feb 29, 2012)
    Canada 1-1 Panama (June 14 2011)
    Canada 1-0 Guadeloupe (June 11 2011)
    USA 2-0 Canada (June 7 2011)
    Canada 2-2 Ecuador (June 1 2011)

Hume doesn't get into our first XI that often as of late actually. On paper we actually have a decent strike force, if only they could convert chances.

    Ranking usually goes:

    De Rosario
    Occean
    Ricketts
    Jackson
    Hume

    How it should go IMO:

    De Rosario
    Jackson
    Occean
    Hume
    Ricketts

Don't know why Ricketts is so highly regarded by Hart, he's decent but I really don't think he should get a spot ahead of Hume, much less Jackson. We do play a christmas tree type formation though, so his pace helps him carry the ball out wide.

EDIT: That's also with Simpson injured, usually we have Simpson playing out wide with De Ro more playing in the hole. But we've been playing De Ro in that wider formations now that we don't have Simpson.

Cuba is screwed no matter what they do. If they make it to the hexagonal I would not at all be surprised if they have a key player defect while they are in the USA since that is completely legal. Unless you think somehow Guatemala and Jamaica are the two teams to advance from Group A this is a serious issue Cuba will need to deal with. Frankly I feel that this law is messed up and I would rather face them in a neutral country rather than making them go through all of this. Wet feet, dry feet really needs to go away.

Silly foul by Antigua & Barbados for that penalty but otherwise they look alright. I think they look better than most of the random small island nations of the Carribean, I think the away match might be a little bit tricky.
