Andy Carroll has been arrested for a new assault charge, Northumbria Police have confirmed.
The Newcastle United
striker is due to appear at Tynedale Magistrates court on Monday, following an incident in Ponteland on Sunday.
A Police spokesman confirmed that the England Under-21 striker had been arrested and charged with assault.
"Andrew Thomas Carroll, 21, Prestwick, Newcastle, has been charged with assault and is due to appear before Tynedale Magistrates," a spokesman for Northumbria Police said.
Carroll, who has only recently signed a new five-year deal at the club, has now been arrested three times in the last three years on similar charges.
In 2008 he accepted a police caution for assault after an incident in Newcastle City centre, then in 2009 he was arrested again after a problem in a local nightclub.
Indeed, for the previous incident Carroll is due to appear in Newcastle Crown Court later this month after he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
