this is just a topic of discussion, but in rugby, am i right in saying they have a rule which awards a team an extra point in the league for scoring 3 tries????

and i thought maybe if you score 4/5 goals in football it should be rewarded with another point in the league, so therefore city and united would of gained 4 points from their games today.

I know goal difference helps teams, but one more point is worth a hell of a lot more than a greater goal difference in my opinion.

just to reiterate i do NOT think this should be a rule, but its just a topic of discussion.

    Coffee discuss...

No, teams should be allowed to play how they wish. It's what makes football vaguely interesting.

How will this stop parking the bus? The team that are against United/City, would just stick 6/7 defenders on and park the bus themselves to try and stop them from scoring.

It wouldn't work because you can still "park the bus" and score 3+ goals by counter-attacking.

Every team playing attacking football would be boring. What makes football a little interesting is the way different teams play.

We would have picked up 2 more points this season, yeah, I would like that idea, as on FM, I normally chrush teams 5/6-0 so that would be good. Laughing

Yeah lets introduce a 5 min multi ball period whilst we're at it.

Just leave the rules as they are.

This would not stop parking the bus at all. A smaller side would know that they have no hope of beating a bigger side, never mind scoring 3 or 4 goals against them. If anything, it would encourage them to park the bus.

Also, teams should be encouraged to play their own style, as long as it complies with the rules of the game.

What about them? I must say that I actually quite like watching them play their football. They are also not as defensive as people like to say they are, but I still admire them for sticking by their principles and not caring what other people think.

I have read your post but I'm picturing how the game would be without any teams parking the bus.

How would small teams be able to beat the best teams in cup games with no parking the bus? I'd of liked it to of been introduced for yesterday only because of how we lost but that's football. It would get boring and repetitive if everyone attacked leaving their defences exposed. If this did happen Messi wouldn't score any good goals by dribbling past 11 players and Mourinho would never be able to beat Barcelona again.

How can Stoke be a defensive side when ever throw-in lands in the opposition box? Just because they are a physical side doesnt mean they dont attack Rolling Eyes

In the youth leagues I used to play in, teams would earn an extra point if they score at least three goals and keep a clean sheet. That gave teams an incentive to score at least three goals, but it also encouraged them to sit back and defend once they have scored 3 goals.

Equating the use of "multi balls" to changing the point system is ridiculous.

Parking the bus is a acceptable tactic, possibly even showing an astute tactical mind. Penalizing it because a team doesn't have the resources in attack would be a gross attack on the spirit of the game. It would also mean defences get neglected in pursuit of better forward players.

Why would you want every team to play the same way? Isn't that what football is about? Differences in teams tactics is what makes it interesting.
