New Generation Consoles

Hearing loads of rumours lately that the next consoles could be as soon as 2012, apparently Microsoft will announce it during E3 in 2012 and it would be released towards the end of 2012.

No clue about Sony & PS, but when you look at it could be true as technology has improved alot lately,

PS Release Years:
PS1, 1994
PS2, 2000
PS3, 2006

So yeah let's wait and see..

Microsoft might, Sony won't.

Sony have already said that the PS3 will have at least a 10 year cycle. I can't see Microsoft releasing a new console that early either because there isn't really any need too. In fact, I think they even said that they are planning a 10 year cycle after the release of Kinect. Yes technology has improved a lot lately, but when you compare the graphics of the best looking PC game at the moment (probably Metro 2033) to that of the best looking console games, I don't think the difference is that great to warrant new hardware as of yet.

With regard to the 10 year life cycle thing, that doesn't mean that they'll wait 10 years before releasing a new console, they consider the PS2 to have a s similar life cycle, indeed they still sell shitloads of them. The 'life cycle' ends when they stop making them, it's not a great indicator of when they plan to release a new one.

The reason they won't release a new one any time soon is that it'd be too expensive for too little gain graphically, as you say there's not a lot of improvement you can do, and it certainly won't justify the enormous price if they were going to mass market a major upgrade.

No, point in releasing anything till like 2015 when I have a job and can afford to splash out £500.

It'll be sometime until they release something else. They can still milk out PS3 and Xbox for a few more years, especially with kinect and that dildo looking thing Sony has.

I remember reading somewhere that the PS3 cannot actually be used to its full capabilities so I think it's gonna be a long time before we get a new one.

It depends on what is holding games back from fully utilising the PS3.

The most obvious one would be the Xbox....as if games are designed for both then developers won't be able to unless they programme two games separately...and that's not going to happen.

But still.....there's lots of PS3 exclusives and whilst they're improving...they're hardly all out of this world......

What else is there to enchance? You can have 3d gaming, controller-less gaming, there really isn't anything to do, they can just update it now.

They will do it in 2012 to incorporate all this useless wireless motion control shit. Graphics wise I don't think they will improve much as the big money is in casual games now who love waving around dildo like objects to play their games

Like they have in films.

I don't know if you've ever seen lord of the rings but tree beard in that is an example of it. The problem with it is that with tree beard it took 28 hours per frame to render. Which obivously makes it difficult to do in real time.

It has been done on a few things though.
