Will we ever witness a footballer getting shot during a game? The only reason I've brought this up is because my friend had a dream where Cristiano Ronaldo was about to take a last minute penalty to win a cup final for Real Madrid, and just as he was about to kick the ball, he was shot in the head by a sniper.

I think he plays a little too much Call Of Duty, but he insists that the situation is very possible and could happen one day. He also went on to say that a major stadium could be bombed during a terrorist attack (-_-)

    Interesting, but strange.

    Possibly....

I think it would be more possible for a bomb to hit a major stadium such as wembley or the San Siro.... good but fucking crazy thread lol.

Sports events(Particularly soccer) don't tend to be targeted by terrorists. It doesn't send a good nor big message like bombing the eiffel tower or the tower of london would.

Plus whose to say terrorists aren't football fans as well? Laughing

There was a game once some years ago where a guy was shot just as he was about the take what would have been the winning penalty. The details escape me atm.

Could happen in open stadiums, where people can view the pitch from outside. Stamford Bridge, Upton Park, and BMO Field come to mind.

There was that bomb scare at Bernabeu a few years back. Can't remember if it turned out to be nothing but I don't see why terrorists would ignore these massive stadiums where they can wipe out massive amounts of people in one go.

I had random thoughts about this before England v USA in the World Cup. What if Al-Qaeda somehow sent a suicide bomber on the pitch? Or highjacked another plane and crashed it into the stadium. Imagine that. Neutral

There was a bomb scare at the Emirates also, there was a package that turned out to be nothing. I think it was the United game in the UCL.

It wouldn't be possible to shoot someone at Emirates though, stewards are bastards and you can't even stand up unless we have a chance to score or actually scoring or unless your signing (Which isn't very often Razz)

I really doubt you would be able to bring a sniper rifle into a big stadium without looking suspect.

1 in 14 people are murdered in El Salvador...so that's the place to go to watch a football game and see someone shot.

Yeah, that's why I think open stadiums are the ones most exposed. Ever noticed those buildings near Stamford Bridge, they are on the west side of the stadium, you can see it when the GK on the east side takes a GK and the camera shows up behind him, that's probably the only way.

I remember reading a story a couple of years ago. An Iraqi player was shot while going one on one with the keeper.

    Here is the article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/16/iraqi-soccer-player-kille_n_175240.html

BAGHDAD — Police say an Iraqi soccer player has been shot dead just as he was about to kick what could have been the tying goal in a weekend game south of Baghdad.

Police Maj. Muthanna Khalid says a striker from the Buhairat amateur team was facing only the goalie during a Sunday match in Hillah when a supporter of the rival Sinjar club shot him in the head in the final minute of play.

Sinjar was leading 1-0 when the shooting occurred. Khalid said a spectator was arrested.

More Iraqis are turning out for sports events now that security is improving. Major matches in Baghdad are heavily guarded but security in amateur games in smaller cities is often lax.
