I remember listening to a Tyler the Creator song before he became massive and thought he was pretty dope. Then I heard more of his stuff and decided it wasn't for me. I got over the shock rap thing in 1999 after Eminem.

Yeah he has some shock value to him, but so did Eminem, he's a decent lyricist but his storytelling / personal stories made me really enjoy it. Like Bastard was REALLY raw and personal, Goblin he sort of responded to the critics too much, so hoping he goes back to that. Also Earl was away during Goblin so hoping for some features.

Fuck, I'm getting hype for this again and last time it got me so dissapointed

I didn't listen to music properly when em was around. I knew him but lyrics? wut so i don't have the concept of shock rap. So when i listened to the whole rape a pregnant bitch and call it a threesome thing, i kind of just back away slowly from him.

Yeah the problem with being a shock type rapper is that's what people mostly hear about, think in terms of over factors he's a really interesting artist though, needs to improve his production because he has a distinct production sound which can get kind of ehhh after 15-17 songs of an album.

I'm still on that gangster shit from the early 2000.

Really stopped listening to gangsta rap after the 2007 match up between "alternative" and "gangsta', genre defining moment right there.

It's 2013 and I still don't know what Alternative is.

Gangsta rap is my guilty pleasure. I think because while I enjoy stuff like 2 Mex's My Path for it's "oh child things will get better" vibe or Bambu's Rent Money for it's "Let's mobilize and take the hood back" ideals, Clika One's Hide the Pain is someone's reality and I think there's room for that in hip hop.
