pirlo's place in history Empty pirlo's place in history

Post by Guest Mon Jun 25, 2012 11:08 am

when the great one retires sometime down the track where will his standing be historically when people talk about great midfielders?

personally i believe he is the greatest centre midfielder to exist in the last 20 years and has god status in f ootball. hes prove his longetivity which is special considering pirlo was in a big slump 3 seasons ago and some people thought he was finish

technical magicians of last 20 years like xavi, scholes, albertini, fletcher, cattermole they all bow to him

Can't separate Pirlo or Xavi the two best midfielders over the last 20 years for me.

Pirlo, Zidane, Xavi are the best in the past 15 years, without a doubt.

You might be right, but I think it's giving me a brain tumor how much nut hugging has been going on since this tournament started.

How is that statement in anyway laughable? Scholes is one of the best midfielders of all time - Xavi, Zidane, etc. all look up to he as the best midfielder ever.

The lack of football knowledge on this forum is disheartening facepalm

You must have realised by now that Jordan Henderson makes a mockery of such clowns like Xavi and Pirlo Laughing

Pirlo is an amazing player, any prospective midfielders out there should look at how he plays the game, and then try to emulate it. Because you can't do it better than that.

You keep saying 20 years, are you sure you don't mean 10 or 15? because those extra years means that Laudrup is gonna overshadow any midfielder from this period. There is no way any of the mentioned are or were better, ill give you Scholes or Pirlo for the last 15 i suppose, Xavi's achievements puts him up there as well, even if that is much more a team performance than the other two who have proven themselves with many different teammates.

Gascoigne was an elite midfielder of the last 20 years, also Le Tissier.

im only talking about centre midfielders that play the role same as pirlo. if i wanted to talk about laudrup i would of made attacking midfielder thread and put him up against zidane nedved rui costa ronaldinho etc

While there's no doubt he's a top player, I think there'll always be doubts about his standing amongst Europe's elite because he never tried himself in a top fair league like the Prem, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 etc.

i agree but i think xavi also has qualities that are better then pirlo and then vice versa. i think both are a step infront of every other midfielder that occupies role of regista to opportunist central midfielder

It is disgusting that he seems able to just walk around the field with the ball, yet still dictate the game.

some players just cant help but to stare in awe

i remember one moment last night when pirlo basically walked 20 yards with the ball and parker stood idle staring at the god before him. he was too fearful to approach pirlo so he just stared in amazement and what was unfolding before his eyes

it can effect people like that, this is probably first time english players came in contact with someone of that presence, someone that can trap a ball and not have a first touch that looks like a bad pass. no doubt parker and gerrard were shocked
