are they?
it's alot of the same players and Croatia is a tough squad, Italy has had some really bad results in recent memory (losing by 3 to russia, losing in Italy to the USA, all 3 matches in South Africa, etc.) All I'm saying is that it will be very interesting and I think alot of you are selling Croatia short. Last Euro they won a group that included Germany and would have been in the quarterfinals if it wasnt for a miracle Turkish goal.

Yes, of course they are different.
Did any of you even watch Italy's World Cup 2010 matches? The squad was filled with aging and out-of-form players. Guys like Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Gilardino, and Iaquinta shouldn't have been there in the first place, let alone starting each match. Not to mention Buffon went out with an injury in the first match and was subsequently out for the rest of that WC, and Pirlo returned in the second half of the last group match, having featured in none of the previous matches.

even so alot of the players were the same, De Rossi, Chiellini, Criscito, Marchisio, Montolivo, Di Natale, Maggio, Bonnucci, etc.
And even if they have changed since then they still had some embarrassing losses recently to USA, Russia, and Ireland. I'm not sold on them.

Italy team that played Slovakia in the last group game in the 2010 world cup:
Marchetti, Criscito Chillieni Cannavaro Zambrotta, De Rossi Pepe Gattuso Montolivo, Iaquinta Di Natale
About 4 of those in the starting 11 are in the current squad.

Bonucci didn't even play in the WC and since then has helped his team to an unbeaten season and the league title, Criscito isn't in the squad anymore and those 3 games you mentioned, vs USA they had a Serie B player in defence vs Russia were just 3 defensive errors, the scoreline didn't tell the full story and vs Ireland they were very unlucky, again, the scoreline didn't tell the full story. Oh and since the WC, in competitive matches Italy are unbeaten.fluffy_kittens wrote:Juventino. wrote:Yes, of course they are different.

You're not sold on them? They came very close to beating the best team in the world. And they did that with a makeshift defense.
Also, they don't take friendlies that seriously. Look at their qualifying campaign if you want to see what they can do when they actually try their best.

I honestly think Croatia and Italy are pretty even and Croatia's players are confident coming off a good win, especially their strikers
