    In 2007 they applied but FIFA rejected them because of the silly Spaniards. It was a contentious decision. Being accepted would mean they can take part in FIFA competitions.

    On 8 December 2006, it was announced that Gibraltar had become a provisional member of UEFA. On 26 January 2007 in the UEFA Congress held in Düsseldorf (Germany), Gibraltar's application to become a full member of UEFA was rejected, with 45 votes against it. Gibraltar received 3 favourable votes from England, Scotland and Wales. 4 votes were undecided.[4]
    This was after intense lobbying of the member nations by the Spanish Football Federation's president Ángel María Villar to vote against the inclusion of Gibraltar. Villar was quoted to have attributed Spain's opposition to the Spanish claim over Gibraltar.[5] He also claimed it was a political issue and referred to the Treaty of Utrecht of 1713.[6] This rejection of Gibraltar's membership was in direct defiance of the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

    So not only have Spain bribed the refs in World Cups and European Championships but they are bribing other countries to vote against Gibraltar.

    It's a disgrace.

    If a small country like Scotland got accepted then surely Gibraltar should too.

    The reason they are being rejected is ridiculous. England/Scotland/Wales aren't countries recognised by the EU and there are a lot more out there Simples

    Fifa are just scared of Spain threatening to boycott any competitions which they would never do as the Spanish F.A need FIFA more than FIFA need them.

    Those areas having national teams is an aberration as well. FIFA should force British territories to play as one.

    Sounds like a good idea and I think at the same time accept any offers from Kosovo and Greenland at the same time.

    Your reasoning?
    Virtually every other sovereign territory only gets one association, it's grossly unfair that the UK gets 4, let alone 5. It means British sides get 8 bites at the cherry in the CL, a similar amount in the Europa League, 4 chances of winning the Euro Championships, 4 chances of winning the World Cup, it's a disgrace.

    Idealistic thinking, but sound enough reasoning.
    On a vaguely related note, who do you think deserved the world up hosting rights for 2018 and 2022?

    If you gave every UK territory a seperate football team in FIFA you would have quite a mess here. You should not forget any of these other areas; Alderney, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Orkney, Sark, Shetland, Western Isles, Ynys Môn, and Falkland Islands.

    Not at the moment, no, but there was a time when Scottish football was the best in the world.

    Then you have this in Gibraltar as well;

    Manchester United F.C. is a football club from Gibraltar.

    Manchester United F.C. was founded 1957, they are named after the famous English side after then-manager Matt Busby gave the club permission to use their name. They play in the Gibraltar Football League's First Division.[1] United play their home games in the Victoria Stadium.[2] The club captain Matthew Reoch is since 2001 member of the Gibraltar national football team.[3]

    Then I suppose it's fair enough. If they aren't recognised as a nation by everyone else, what's the point of them playing.
