Sion to get deducted 36 points

The Swiss FA will deduct 36 points for fielding ineligible players in ten league and two cup games.
That means Basel will play in the CL league but Sion can still appeal the decision.

Here's how the table will look like. -5 points, fucking hell

Absolutely disgraceful, I hope they appeal and win. What's most important is that the decision is not rushed though, a complex case like this should take a few weeks to sort out. As we've seen with the FA's punishment of Suarez, sometimes a lot of preparation is needed.

36 points? Not even calciopoli took 36 points off any of the involved teams.

How do they work it out?

They were legally allowed to play those players, a court decided it. Courts have more authority than FIFA or UEFA.

If they fielded the players for 10 league games, why are they losing 36 points? They should just lose the points they gained during those 10 matches.

They decided to include the 2 cup matches in the league punishment for some particular reason. Actually since it was for multiple cup games you cannot make the two games the standard 3-0 forfeit and put those two teams back in the tournament. Strange thing is it seems Sion has not been kicked out of cup according to the documents I have have read about this.

They weren't kicked out because they didn't field the ineligible players in their last cup game, wouldn't have been possible without restarting the cup.

The Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland confirmed the FIFA, DRC and CAS decisions in 2009 and 2010 respectively. FC Sion also sued SFL and UEFA respectively in the Tribunal Cantonal de Valais and the Tribunal in Vaud, however both actions were dismissed.

Sion are clearly in the wrong and deserve the punishment they are getting. I don't see why they are making a big deal about it. Just accept the punishment and move on. Otherwise, get the fuck out of UEFA/FIFA.

Well I think they could kick them out now and give the team who drew them in the current round a bye to the next round. Although giving a 2nd division team a free pass to the semifinal might not be a attractive idea for the Swiss FA.
