UEFA Champions League knockout stage draw analysis Empty UEFA Champions League knockout stage draw analysis

    Post by Weather130 Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:01 pm

Since it is coming up soon I thought I would look at some of the various details here. Let start by looking at how many possibilities each group winner has for who they can draw here.

    Bayern Munich 6 possibilities
    Inter 5 possibilities
    Benfica 7 possibilities
    Real Madrid 7 possibilities
    Chelsea 7 possibilities
    Arsenal 7 possibilities
    APOEL 7 possibilities
    Barcelona 7 possibilities

Should be interesting if we somehow get APOEL v Basel then I would be fairly sure this is rigged.

Now lets look how everyone is doing domestically at the moment.

    Bayern Munich 1st 10-1-4
    Inter 16th 4-2-6 (1 game in hand)
    Benfica 2nd 8-3-0
    Real Madrid 1st 12-1-1
    Chelsea 4th 9-1-4
    Arsenal 5th 8-2-4
    APOEL 3rd 8-2-2
    Barcelona 2nd 10-4-1
    Napoli 5th 5-5-3
    CSKA Moscow 2nd 16-11-5
    FC Basel 1st 11-4-2
    Lyon 4th 9-2-5
    Bayer Leverkusen 6th 7-4-4
    Marseille 7th 6-6-4
    Zenit St Petersburg 1st 18-11-3
    Milan 2nd 8-3-2

Arsenal's confirmed possible last 16 opponents: Napoli, CSKA Moscow, FC Basel, Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen, Zenit St Petersburg, AC Milan

Would be happy to avoid Lyon and Napoli.

Me too, we're out but I doubt we'd ever win it with this midfield so I don't see it as the end of the world, hopefully we keep winning in the league like we have been bar the Newcastle game which should have been 3 points, if we do we'll be back in the Champions League straight away and hopefully with a good midfielder, we've all gotta take our beats sometimes, also I think Fergie took the group wayyy too lightly, if we actually went for it from the first game I'm pretty certain we would have gone through, hopefully he doesn't make the same mistake if we qualify for the Champions League next season.

Things like this make me appreciate what I've had in my lifetime even more tbh, only annoying thing is actually being in a shit competition that even if you win, you lose really.

I think it would be amazing if we got something like a Barcelona v Manchester United match up for the UEFA Super Cup final. This will be the last Super Cup in Monaco so it should really go out in style.

Yeah Manchester United is playing some terrific football, would love to see them on the pitch against Barcelona. Would be close.

I think if the final of the Europa ended up Man City V Man Utd it would make the competition alot more popular in future years.

You could also have a quality "old school" final with something like Manchester United v Ajax

That's a rough group for Arsenal to draw from there.

    Ill predict Leverkusen or Milan.

If they were to complete the process before the draw then they'd probably be replaced with the 3rd placed team.

Why do Munich and Inter have less possibilities than the others?

Arsenal v Zenit would be alright, not a really bad team but not hard enough that they do not win.

Would like Zenit or Basel, although Basel will be difficult. Pretty sure we'd beat Lyon for some reason.
