Re: Book Thread
I remember it being quite hard work because it's littered with an imaginary language. Probably not a relaxing book to read, but still good.

Re: Book Thread
From what I remember reading once, the language used is mostly Russian or something.
Saw the movie, never read the book.

That puts me off, I do not want to waste my time with that sort of rubbish.Rei Andros wrote:From what I remember reading once, the language used is mostly Russian or something.

Gulliver's Travels it is.

Thinking of reading The Catcher in the Rye.
Has anyone read it? Is it any good?

Re: Book Thread
It is not the greatest book in terms of plotline, but it does have one of the most iconic characters of all time. Holden is the archetypal adolescent, and the insights and hypocrisies he presents are what make the book. You will end up either despising him or loving him.

Re: Book Thread
Need to find a good book to read but can't decide on one. I'll probably just end up doing what I usually do... Going to the library and just finding a random book.

Gulliver's Travels is somewhat boring, but Jonathan Swift's writing is simply exceptional. So verbose, it is almost bombastic in nature, but his way with words is incredible.

Seeing this has made me go on my local councils library website.Rei Andros wrote:Currently reading The Speed of Dark. It's superb.
It appears you can search for books, to see if they have them in the library. Plus you can reserve them.
Why didn't someone tell me this before.

Re: Book Thread
I did not tell you that before because I did not know where your local library is, nor what regulations they have.
My father recommended Rubicon to me. Is it any good?

I usually don't have problems when ordering used books, but my latest acquisition has what appear to be Cheetos stains on the pages. And the spine of my other book looks like it's been gnawed on by a gang of rats.

Give them bad feedback and demand a refund.

Re: Book Thread
I visited a bookstore for the first time in ages today, and I must say, things have changed. I looked at the "young adults" section, and I just find the modern cover artwork for teen fantasy inherently unappealing. The artwork just looks so...Japanese. And that is not a racist comment, I just do not fancy the idea that I am reading something that some Manga comic book writer bashed out in his spare time. There is just something authentic when I look at my old copies of the Redwall series from ages ago.

My favourite books are, personally, the "Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief" Trilogy.
But I'm 13, so I will take easy if you tell me the books are shit and childish

Nah, I loved Rick Riordan when I was that age. I would probably still enjoy his books.Lil-Milzer-Ladd wrote:My favourite books are, personally, the "Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief" Trilogy.

Rick Riordan is a fantastic author
I also like Eoin Colfer, very good Irish author.

Yeah, I liked the first few Artemis Fowl books, but I never really followed up my interest in that series.
