I'd say Coquelin is quite ready to step up.
Not as back up for one of our most crucial positions on the pitch he isn't. If we want to get back challenging for the league we need more quality in depth.

Don't you rate him? I rate him way more than Frimpong. Coquelin has more tactical awareness and he's clever. You can win 50/50's with cleverness as you can with strength. Frimpong is a pretty poor player, imo, he's just a beast and a kind of comedian, I guess.

Coquelin is, imo, ready to be a more than adequate back-up for Song (or to play a defensive role next to Song, for the matter).

I think Arsenal needs to address other positions in the formation. Too bad Wenger brought in players for pretty much every position he needed to strengthen, but lack good quality (read: Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Santos). I guess Arteta and Gervinho were reasonable signings. It means it's more unlikely he'll make a quality signing coming transfer window, unless a player decides to leave.

I wish Coquelin is as good as he's made out to be. Hopefully he stays too.
I personally think Frimpongs over-rated but hopefully he should get better with time.

I think a quality youngish fullback and attacking player who could play right across the front would do us wonders.

I hope he offers £25m and snatches up M'Vila since he could play in the Champion's League and will over more cover and options in the middle.

Francois is much like Armand in that they each have a lot of potential, but can't do much with it. Frimpong is EXTREMELY overrated. He's done fuck all and basically has a cult following at Arsenal among some people.

Overrated Arsenal youngster, there's a surprise. Official Arsenal FC Thread - Page 12 3925848005

I've only seen Coquelin a few times but he's shown more in one match than Frimpong has in his career so far.

I rate him as a good young player but I just can't see him being able to cope with such a responsibility at his age. Answer this, if Song gets an injury and misses the last few months of the season would you be happy relying on such an inexperienced midfielder to handle most of our defensive duties in midfield? What happens if he comes up against teams like Barcelona, Real, United, Chelsea, City, Milan, Bayern etc. No way am I happy with that.

I agree about you views on Arsene's panic buys. He isn't going to go out and strengthen areas when said positions are already filled with new signings. Sad but true.

I could maybe see him signing another forward to fill in both on the wing and upfront and that's it.

Oh yeah, I would agree that Frimpong is overrated as well. Not to say he wont be a decent midfielder in the future but his antics off the pitch has caused a lot of fans to overlook the fact that he is very mistake prone and his temperament is awful.

I don't have the delusion that Coquelin will handle those teams without a problem, but I don't think Song will hold himself well against those teams either. To be fair, Song hasn't impressed me in a long time. He makes a lot of mistakes and bad decisions. As example a few matches ago he tried to get past a player in your own box, I believe it was against Marseille, and he lost the ball. He has like the worst dribbling technique in the team and then he tries that? That's a mistake amateurs would get laughed at, here in Holland atleast. That's just plain stupid.

Okay, maybe I'm too harsh on him. He has his good things too. I just think Coquelin has the right tools to be a very good DM. Maybe I overrate him though, I haven't seen an awful lot of matches of his, just a few matches at Lorient and the few he played at Arsenal, but I've seen qualities in him. I see him as one of the best prospects coming through.

Yup, it's clear to me now. I'm a fan, haha.

Yeah Frimpong is a cult figure, because of his antics off the field (twitter, hair etc) but mainly because of his great love and loyalty towards Arsenal. He's talented and I do rate him, he's certainly got potential. Maybe a loan move wouldn't be a bad idea if we think about getting M'Vila in January or next summer.

Wenger's idiocy at his best. Why he keeps playing Song, who continues to perform poor to mediocre every match, and let Coquelin sit on the bench or not even that is beyond me. Sure, Song deserves some credit, but let him know there are other players knocking on the door, to put some pressure on him to perform better. Play Frimpong/Coquelin against sides like Swansea and Wigan. No need for Song. It's not he's going to make a killer pass. Frimpong/Coquelin would do just fine in a match like that. Where's Chamberlain? Where's Miyaichi? One time he plays a team with an average age of 21, next time he plays a team with Arshavin as starter and Benayoun on the bench.

I'm glad that the team's rolling again and performing alright lately, but man, I can't follow this man's thoughts.

Song has probably been our most creative midfield player this season. Watch his assists for Gervinho against Blackburn and for Santos against Chelsea and then tell me that he can't produce a killer pass. Song is really under-appreciated by a lot of you on here.
