I agree with teams maybe trying to play decent football instead of just grinding out results to stay up, like Stoke for example. That's a fair point.

Yeah winning a trophy is great, but i still think promotion to the top flight is more motivating than winning the Football League then staying in that division as the defending champions.
You do qualify for a European competition if you win the CC or FA Cup, btw.
