In Carroll, Bellamy, Suarez, Kuyt, Spearing, Gerrard and Carragher. We've got players who won't be bullied and won't be messed with, especially in an important Derby fixture (the type of game Carragher usually excels in). Add the physical presence of Skrtel, Enrique and Kelly to that, it's a pretty beast team.

Holy shit. Look at all those strikers.

A big, strong midfield against Everton please.

Sorry Scott, but putting out a physical side isn't always the key to success in these derby games. We need Lucas in there. Spearing can do his job, but just not at the same level. Gerrard won't be ready, he's only played just over 30 minutes of football in the past week. Lucas and Spearing in the middle would work fine though, we've seen it before and they compliment eachother well.

Playing Carroll is useless without proper delivery and having Kuyt and Bellamy won't provide the greatest width so chucking Downing in there will probably help.

Kuyt and Bellamy are playing on the wings in that formation ... Not as strikers. Spearing and Gerrard is a strong centre.

No, against Chelsea you had 2 proper central midfielders and Gerrard, and besides, when you played them they were also playing a tactic that was completely insane, trying to accommodate their new £50m signing by playing far more strikers than is sensible.

yeah this would be my team Very Happy Very Happy

I'm with Jaime - Adam is shit and shouldn't be near the staring XI Mad

I thought Carroll was pretty average vs. Wolves TBH, nothing to be excited about. Suarez is too quick thinking for him...

I'd bet my life that Carra will start against Everton, can't see him throwing Coates in against them.

EDIT: Scott, where did you get that heat map thing?

I would be happy with that team, but i would still have Carragher instead of Coates especially for a derby game.

That Chelsea line up was so insane that they stuck 4 past Sunderland the Tuesday before they played us. The only difference was that Torres came in for Kalou. On the back of that you can understand why Ancelotti stuck with the same formation v us.

As for our formation in that game we played:

Liverpool FC Official Thread - Page 23 1297070570898069

That formation dominated Chelsea in that game. We had the right balance throughout the team and managed to attack whilst keeping them at bay. Don't see why it would do any harm in trying it out again.

Their tactics were a complete fucking farce thanks to that change, look at the board you just posted. If you ever play a team who decide to play with absolutely no width other than the two fullbacks then yeah, a 5-1-4 might be a good idea, but against any other decent team you'll get skullfucked.
