Re: Tottenham Hotspur Official Thread
Stuff going on today with Corluka out, Saha possibly in and a match v Wigan in the process. And our FA Cup tie away to Stevenage is going to be shown on ITV1 on the Sunday with kick-off at 2pm.

People still holding hope of another van der Vaart signing
I think it'll be Saha and that's it. Then Pav out before the Russian window closes.

This lad I think
Edit: Oh and before someone makes more of Defoe not being there, he's injured.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Official Thread
We won 3-1 tonight, Bale was outstanding. But, we need to not relax so much when 2-0 up at home. We need to continue on the front foot for as much of the match as possible to get goals for the goal difference. Lost VDV and Walker (I knew it would happen after letting Corluka go!) to injury, just wait and see how bad they are. We have cover for Rafa, it's Walker I'm more worried about.

Quite funny seeing that allegedly tax evading wanker lose track of all the fucking transfers he's trying to put through on the last day. Let's hope they have all the paperwork sorted.

What do you expect when he was in court for most of the day then rushed to the stadium for the Wigan match?ResurrectionRooney wrote:Quite funny seeing that allegedly tax evading wanker lose track of all the fucking transfers he's trying to put through on the last day. It's the sheer volume of transfers on the last day that surprises and amuses me.easley91 wrote:What do you expect when he was in court for most of the day then rushed to the stadium for the Wigan match?ResurrectionRooney wrote:Quite funny seeing that allegedly tax evading wanker lose track of all the fucking transfers he's trying to put through on the last day. So many last minute stuff happening for us. Saha and possibly Ryan Neilson in (not sure if that has been confirmed yet), Pienaar, Bassong, Corluka out on loan and Pavlyuchenko going to back to Russia.

People going into meltdown Spurs forums Acting like we're not going to get top 4
Only one that pissed me off was Pieface leaving on loan, because we're even less equipped on the wings should Bale and/or Lennon get injured.
Other then that we've replaced/loaned out deadwood on high wages and got in short terms fixes on low wages. Doubt either Nelsen or Saha will play that much.

Different leagues Kuled and it was only going to be a loan, better than nothing which they have now ended up with.

Neilson and Saha are just cover for the short-term no doubt. Expect bigger signings in the summer, like Damiao or Ba. Good to see Pav finally go (I like him, but just thought we surpassed his quality and he wasn't good enough for us anymore).

Yep.
With CL back on the table and the fact Bale and co. are making headlines I expect us to go all out and redevelop the squad, getting rid of more deadwood in the process to push onto the next level.

It is harder to get the better quality players in January, especially on the last day. Hopefully do business early in the summer so the team can gel with teh new faces with enough time before the season.COYS wrote:easley91 wrote:Neilson and Saha are just cover for the short-term no doubt. People moaning we didn't go and get a WC striker. But the fact is we tried with Remy a long term target and they rejected it, no point panicking and doing an Andy Carroll. Or even if we did how can we drop Ade/have the new striker sit on the bench. Might aswell come back end of season after we've finished 3rd () and be in a much better position to pick all these players up.

Pretty sure that considering none of your rivals really spent all that much you will safely make at least third..

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Official Thread
Imagining that you will push onto the next level after this season is fairly optimistic. Spurs are having a great season, but I feel this might be your peak, and maintaining this level will be very difficult, let alone building on it. United in the early Ferguson years came close to taking the title but dropped away and didn't win anything for years following. Liverpool had their best ever Premier League season in 2008/09 and they could never match it, not even coming close to that level ever since. The same thing happened under Houllier after his Liverpool side finished 2nd in 2002. Arsenal also imploded after a title challenge in 2008, and after their "unbeaten" season.
It'll be especially difficult for Spurs with Adebayor and Redknapp both looking like they'll be leaving, Modric and Bale possibilities, and the likes of van der Vaart, King, Dawson, Friedel and Gallas another year older. Maintain Champions League football for more than one season and there's a real chance of building something, but that was to be the main aim for Spurs in 2012/13, not 'the next level'.

Not unless we skip a step.
Look at the money City spent to try and do that and they're struggling. Rather we built it up steadily, built on the quality we've got in Bale and co. and took it from there. Regular top 3/4 spots maybe pushing for the title some seasons would be great.
Then we can look at being title contender season after season.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Official Thread
We can't just go from one CL season to title contenders, we need to be in the top 4 regularly as much as possible. That is much harder now though since City have obviously strengthened and there are 6 teams fighting for those spots. One thing at a time. 3rd this season allows us to keep the key players and add further quality in the summer.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Official Thread
Alot of Spurs fans are getting way ahead of themselves because we've done so well this season coupled with failings of other teams. Fact is Chelsea and co. will get their act together and it'll be closer next season. Need to take it a step at a time and not over reach.
