Hover over the 0 and you'll see his actual points, it shows up as 0 when he's on the bench.

Because he's on your bench. Put your cursor over the 0 and it will show 5.

You don't get points for a player on the bench.

What's the point in having the bench then

If a player from you first XI doesn't play, players from your bench play.
