I was actually pleased with Carroll's performance today, scored a tidy goal, and linked up decently with the midfield when the ball was played to his feet.

He's not that bad on the floor with his back to goal, but when he's 1 on 1 with a defender we all know the outcome.

He's actually a pretty good on the ground. When he's got his abck to goal and the balls played to his feet, he can set up Suarez/Downing if they make a run. At the moment we're looking for him to knock the ball down for Suarez and that's not working.

Carroll did good, think that goal was wrongly disallowed? Predictable that we had to concede a wonder goal and proceed to look the shadow of the team in the first half.

People always score good goals against us, Van Der Vaart from last year, and Cameron Jerome come to mind

Thought Carroll was good, liked at one point when he brought it down, fake shot with his left and let one off with his right.

And Downing's run and shot was lovely.But I am really not keen on him shifting to the right too often. Ruins the crossing game.

Agree, Carroll did well. He missed a shitload of chances by headers, but that will come no doubt. He was also unlucky not to have that goal allowed, very unlucky. But on the floor he did well and he flicked the balls on well. The hoofers need to be shot.

Flanno really frustrated me tonight. Reckless tackles, poor marking.

Yeah we got too narrow when he went on the right, if we had someone similar to him who was right footed (like Young at Villa), then he could swap sides at still keep the width, but whenever he swapped to the right it was someone like Henderson on the left , who was a passenger today.

His run and shot was our best bit of attacking all game. The crossing didn't work because certain players thought it'd be wise to hoof it to him.

Sorry to mention Aquilani again but the thing about him is that he works very well with the wingers. Put him in a team with DOwning and we might get somewhere.

To add to Flanagans performance he was always too long on the ball and when he did pass it was either shit or back to Carragher(who hoofed).

He's only 18.. But then why fucking play him in a huge game(first game of the season is always huge). We could of played Kelly.

Well said. And I was thinking that Kelly must be injured or something. Because he is better than Flanno everyday of the week even though he wasn't as impressive preseason.
