Aquilani's better bang in the centre of midfield. Not attacking, not defensive. He was pretty quiet against Valencia when he was palyed in the hole. I reckon he's more of a deep lying playmaker.

Henderson just signed from Sunderland. Would make sense for him to play.
No, it really wouldn't...

How many times have you seen him play in the hole though Jamie? I haven't really seen it, I'd want to see it for myself firsthand.Jamie wrote:Bogdan wrote:Because of what Mauro said? Mauro was spot on in what he said imo. I think he can "do a job" there but his best position is deeper.

I would like to see him play there a little more before we make judgement.

Not sure on the amount, but he's played in the hole for us a number of times.

Aquilani played only a few games for us, this is the lineup I remember.Jamie wrote:Bogdan wrote:How many times have you seen him play in the hole though Jamie? I'd wouldn't say he's like that at all. Alonso was a deep lying playmaker. Aquilani will bring the ball out of the midfield. Transitional midfielder. Like fabregas.Cadbury wrote:Aquilani's better bang in the centre of midfield. Not attacking, not defensive. He was pretty quiet against Valencia when he was palyed in the hole. If we are up then give him a chance in the hole and see how he links up with the other players around him, whoever they are.
We dont have anybody else to play in the hole right now.
If Suarez doesnt start then you play Henderson there? From what I read he hasn't impressed in that role too much in pre-season, so I would just as soon bump Henderson out wide or to the bench and start Aquilani there.

- Spoiler:
Best team we can field when everyone's fit. If Carroll doesn't perform swap him for Kuyt/put Kuyt where Suarez is and play Suarez up front.
That's a pretty fucking good team. On paper. With players like Carragher, Kelly, Aurelio, Adam, Meireles, Henderson, Maxi, Kuyt etc ready to fill in when players are injured. I'd rather keep Spearing as back-up for Lucas as opposed to playing the two together. Lucas is a decent enough defensive midfielder, put a playmaker next to him and we have a decent partnership there. Especially against a team like Sunderland, i don't see why we'd put two defensive midfielders together. It's ridiculous. Hopefully the guy on TLW was wrong.

Could you? Where's the logic in playing a player against their former team ahead of a better player?

That's if no defenders get injured.
You do realise Auerlio could be playing?
We didn't just buy a left back did we?
Will he play?
Just phoning up Kenny ...
Let me re-phrase that, can he play?
Is he eligible?

Players tend to play better against their former team but you see kuyt as a better player while i see him as just a little bit better so yeah. If i saw kuyt as a much better player i would agree with you but i don't.

Kuyt's better on the right than Henderson. Henderson's only looked good in the hole in pre-season. His passing is pretty impressive, though it needs work. He could develop into a simialr player to Aquilani in my opinion.

I think Aquilani's best Liverpool performances have been more in that attacking role, where he had less defensive responsibilities. Just like Meireles he also played better in the same sort of position.

I though Henderson was showing potential on the right? I haven't seen enough of preseason so i'm not going to argue over this.
