Absolutely awful, they would most likely beat a typical round 1 opponent easily and maybe round 2, but they are a feeder/breeder club for Feyenoord and nothing more, Feyenoord sends the talents they aren't sure about to Excelsior to let them develop with a bit of first team football(Salomon Kalou and Van Persie have had time at Excelsior as well as Michel Bastos). Excelsior stadium can seat about 3500 and it is rarely full unless one of the old big 3 comes to visit. The fans are generally against the clubs work with Feyenoord as they get mocked by other fans for being just a Feyenoord B squad really.

I am unsure if the fair play standings keep counting into the play-offs but i assume they don't so everyone counts on Twente to not win it i guess Smile It would probably be received very negatively as it would hurt more than it would gain most likely viewing the leagues performances in Europe in attempt to keep in the top 8 of leagues in Europe to keep their spots secure

No because it would be unfair for teams like Excelsior who are not in any playoff. It is kind sad when the last place team could possibly make Europe. Has Twente struggled against any of these teams? I think they have to be massive favorites to win this playoff.

Nope but they did lose to VVV-Venlo on the last day who had nothing to play for, while Twente themselves could potentially get to EL through normal proceedings, althought that would have ment Excelsior getting Europa League. It would be best if Vitesse could make Europe of the teams in the playoff, NEC and RKC are selling out players while Vitesse are attempting to build a team to challenge the top, they were alone in the sub top spot for much of the season but they may be well on their way to challenge in the top in the coming years.

I know that you do not follow the relegation/ promotion playoffs but things look intresting. I want to see FC Eindhoven to come up and see if a new local derby against PSV can start up.

That would be something, it is a real city rivalry unlike the Feyenoord and Excelsior thing. FC Eindhoven hasn't been in the top league since the late 70s though, will be interesting to see if that changes, i think that VVV-Venlo are too strong to go down and Graafschap also posses some kind of quality, it might end like last season where only the last place were relegated as the other 2 clubs managed the playoffs, then it was RKC that went up and Willem II that went down.

Both Eredivise teams in relegation playoff drew away from home.

New Ajax man Lasse Schøne pulled some headlines as he assisted and scored a penalty in NEC's 3-2 victory over Vitesse. RKC drew with FC Twente at home 1-1.

Replays are on Sunday, hope Twente keeps in mind that they are already qualified a victory for them in the playoff would just mean they skip a round of EL, still starting a bit before the league starts up regardless. And they don't really have any Euro 2012 players to worry about not getting enough rest except one they are receiving from Denmark in Andreas Bjelland.

If Twente starts in the first qualifying round and draw the right team from a crappy football nation like Andorra, San Marino, etc. I could see massive scorelines like maybe 10-0 in a simgle game. Although they could possibly have a bad draw and get some one like Lech Poznań, Rosenborg, Kalmar FF, etc.

After a day with full focus on the BPL i might as well update with 2 stories from the Eredivise.

Twente lost in the play-off to RKC and are taking the Fairplay route into EL, Vitesse face RKC Waalwijk in the final for the spot in Europe

It is also a fact that we say goodbye to De Graafschap in the Eredivise as they lost to FC Den Bosch.

The finals in the relegation play-off are between VVV-Venlo v Helmond Sport (who edged out FC Eindhoven) and FC Den Bosch v Willem II, the latter who was the team relegated from Eredivise last season after being in the top league for 24 years.

I guess the handful of Excelsior fans out there were crushed with today's result.

For the whole perspective that is a relatively little group compared to the general dutch football fans (Twente would be in EL one way or another) that is happy they have a team that could rack in points from the first round to the group stage rather than the potential a Excelsior club that would be unseeded and most likely get thrown out in the 3rd or 4th round. If you look at the UEFA points a few years ago it didn't look great for the Netherlands but they are on the way up to compete for spots out of the top 5 leagues and could with financial fair play realistically break in to the top 5 in a couple of years should the bigger leagues not have enough teams to adopt proper talent facilities.

I've been completely caught up in Diablo 3 this week. So a short, silly, "livescore" update, and some Ajax stuff that just makes one smile.

RKC 1 - 3 Vitesse was the result of the first leg of the EL playoff, which gives Vitesse a very good shot at home in the return leg for the spot, which is well deserved as the lonely number 7 in the league.

In the relegation playoff, VVV made a good first step winning away against Helmond Sport, while Willem II drew away against FC Den Bosch, both good results for the favorites that will see last seasons relegated team back after a year out of the Eredivise.

The 10 candidates for Ajax goal of the year, 2 by Eriksen and 2 by Alderweireld, the candidates were picked from the goal of the month votes, that are taken from all levels of Ajax "contract" football.

Fantastic goals, Alderweireld can hit it extraordinarly well and De Boer still got it Laughing.

Are you keeping us updated on the Eredivisie transfers too? Are there any players linked for the vacant CB position or will just Denswil replace Vertonghen?

I think I'll watch the Eredivisie a lot more next season, I should have more time on the weekends seeing as I'm starting work in August.

Did anyone here see the video of De Graafschap relegation that went viral? Rogier Meijer the team's captain was devestated and then his daughter sudden shows up to cheer him up. It was actually quite cute.
