No. Poulsen doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Squillaci. Squillaci makes Poulsen look like Messi.
Incidentally, from that Omegle thread
ZlatanFabregas wrote:What is a Squillaci?
Stranger 1: A squid
Stranger 2: A liverpool defensive midfielder
Stranger 1: mixed with a posallaci
That was rather interesting

Heard that Arsenal are allowed to speak to Gary Cahill tomorrow but they are still trying to agree a fee with Bolton.

I wonder if we will make a bid on Mertesacker since Werder are finally going to listen to offers for him.

Mertesacker is available, in his last year of his contract and is a beast. PUT AN OFFER IN ARSENE.
Seriously though, at the prices being quoted for this guy he is well worth the risk, even with his poor form last season.

Not sure if Mertesacker would be a good signing for you. As has been mentioned, he was poor last season. You need to sign someone who you know you can rely on to do well like Samba.

Mertesacker will give you some much needed pace at the back.

Just because he is slow does not make him a bad defender Dan, look at Carragher.

Who the fucks cares about his form "last season", one bad seasons does not change the fact that he has been among the best central defenders in the world for the last 4 or 5 years. His quality dwarfs Cahill, Samba, and Jagielka. Hell I would even saw in terms of just pure defending he is better than Vermaelen. Pairing him with Thomas and then signing someone else of quality as a back up would be perfect.
I Chiellini and Howedes are still my first choices though.

He's captain at Werder Bremen isn't he? could provide that extra bit of leadership we need at the back aswell.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
He definitely has leadership qualities and doesn't buckle under pressure. People point out his poor form, but the entire team was shit. We are a perfect example of that. When a team goes to shit the best players also lose form, i.e. basically our entire team the 2nd half of the last two seasons (excluding Van Persie this season).

I agree with this, in general several Bundesliga clubs under performed, and some over, but it doesn't mean we just go for the players that played well. I mean Eggimann or Mertesacker, not really hard even though one helped his team to 4th and one much lower down.

I would love it if Wenger signed Mertesacker because every time we had a corner/free kick we could aim for him so he can head it in.
Just like what Fulham do with Hangeland.

Mertesacker and Vermaelen could complement each other well, still I'd prefer Cahill.

You're comparing a player who's just escaped getting relegated and had to choose the Congo because France wouldn't take him to a player who's been capped by an arguably superior nation to France and has played his part in europe pretty well

I'm not sure how reliable this source is but anyway: http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/6m-arsenal-defender-target-made-available
"With only one year left on his current contract in the Bundesliga, Sky Sports claims Arsenal could be able to land the player for a fee in the region of £6 million."
For £6mill It's worth taking the risk (Imo he wouldn't flop) and it would better than wasting £17mill on Cahill.

I wouldn't mind us spending £10m to try and sign him. When you consider we spent £10m to sign Laurent who is inferior to Mertesacker, we would basically be robbing Werder Bremen.
The only thing missing is a proven LB if we could sign Per and our back line would be solid.
