Thats bullshit that nobody can fuck with them from the past, But i think Messi and Ronaldo are top class, but some of the great players from years ago did not play on the perfect pitches Ronaldo and Messi play on today.And0TheGr8 wrote:People will always be deluded by the older generation because they are "legends of the game" but the skills that Messi and Ronaldo posses are second to none, they are already two of the best ever and people are scared to label them as that because of their ages. Re: Best player of all time
who thinks messi and c.ronaldo are the best player\s of all time probably think that justin bieber and lady gaga are the best singers ever
i wont take "old" generations players that owns messi and c.ronaldo like for example garrincha and tostão to exclude the possibility to bieber\gaga fans say "old football was not competitive bla bla bla" ....
but i'll take more recent players like ronaldo, romario, rivaldo ... where they should be making part of that poll instead of messi and CR

Go and download some old football matches, from the highest level around the time that Pele was playing, it is a joke compared to modern football, any team playing like that today would be absolutely obliterated.

Re: Best player of all time
Will we say the same about players for Ronaldo and Messi 50-60 years from now? Will football make as dramatic of a change from Pele's days to Ronaldo's days? Maybe not... but taking into account the advancements in technology, sports science, tactics, etc. that can happen in the next few decades its not impossible.
Surely there's a point where we have to just accept the great players for who they are and stop trying to use their time period as a crutch.

many bieber fans here say "id like to see "old" players playing in current football
as i'd like to see current players playing old football

Obviously. Tactics change over time. People in 50 years or so will most definitely say the same things about football now compared to what they watch.ResurrectionRooney wrote:Go and download some old football matches, from the highest level around the time that Pele was playing, it is a joke compared to modern football, any team playing like that today would be absolutely obliterated.

That's not a proper citation and I think you are making a mockery out of the integrity of the forum.

I'm not talking tactically, if a team lined up today with a WM formation and they were used to playing in it I reckon they'd pose some extremely difficult questions to their modern day counterparts. The major difference is in the athleticism, professionalism and speed of play, as recently as the early 90s top Premier League footballers were regularly out drinking, the players' diets were far inferior, there was a great for Brazil called Garrincha who had totally spasticated legs and he managed to be one of the greatest footballers in the world, if any of these players turned up today they would have no chance. Old football is of very low quality, I'd put it around a par with the Women's World Cup, and that might be being generous.
You can make the argument that if you gave players modern diets and modern training they would be better than their modern counterparts, but there's no guarantee of that, and if you do that you're judging them as they might have been, not what they were, which is blatantly inferior to their modern day counterparts. You put someone like Nani or Arshavin back into 1960 and they would be hailing him as a christ-like figure, some of the worst players in the Premier League today would be the best players in the world back then.

Re: Best player of all time
Here is a citation machine that I used when I was younger that helps people like you use the words of insightful people to back arguments without wrongfully stealing those words.
I've even gone through the troble of finding the right section, non-print: lecture, speech, address, or reading
http://citationmachine.net/index2.php?reqstyleid=1&mode=form&reqsrcid=MLALecture&more=yes&nameCnt=1
Cite on.

Likewise, you give Pele, Garrincha, Best, Eusebio, etc the training they have now and YOU would be begging for United to sign them.

They're just hypothetical players though, if the question is 'Pele at his best or Messi at his best' then the answer is Messi every time, if the question is 'Hypothetical Pele with massive improvements or Messi at his best' then the question becomes more about how much better Hypothetical Pele would be if he had the correct diet or professionalism.

Re: Best player of all time
It's better to assume the question as how good they were relative to their time period. Otherwise it's stupid to compare them.ResurrectionRooney wrote:BMxJoga wrote:ResurrectionRooney wrote:SBSP wrote:Obviously. Tactics change over time. I don't see it as hypothetical(well yes hypothetical but a valid hypothesis). You give Pele modern pitches, fitness plans and diets along with his impeccable touch, dribble, IQ, passing and most of all finishing and then tell me.
