Re: Do you live in your clubs city/town?
I have a mate who's supported Chelsea since 2004 and laughs at me when I go to an away game and we lose, saying it's a waste of money, or laughs at every defeat we have, and constantly calls us shit. Never been to London, never been to Stamford Bridge. I feel sorry for him and it's not worth the effort arguing back to him.

Re: Do you live in your clubs city/town?
It's a lot more then that. When we played Newcastle in the Fa Cup 4th round on BBC 1 these people in question were at the game. They were also at both our play off final games at the Millenium stadium but haven't been back since and have returned to watching Man Utd on sky sports.Radford11 wrote:CTFC~ced wrote:Well said. I just don't understand the attraction of supporting a side miles away on the tele, when in most cases the "fans" have a local league or non league side not too far from them. Really annoys me when I speak to Man Utd fans in Cheltenham who say "Cheltenham are shit, why do you support Cheltenham?" or when I'm asked "who's your premiership team?"Radford11 wrote:No armchair fan will feel the high i felt standing on a terrace in Brentford watching Hereford United earn promotion to the 3rd level of English football. Manchester United fan's etc. "celebrating" the champions league via the tele wont be anywhere near the same level.
Tell you what, I'd much rather be watching Cheltenham score 4 goals in the last 10 minutes with 200 mad away fans at Burton Albion to win 6-5 then watch Man Utd thump Wigan 4-0 on sky sports. Where's the fun in that? Where's your connection to the club? And how are you supporting them?
I get that alot, is annoying to put it politely.
You feel so much more involved supporting your local club then you do watching a side 200 miles away on the tele.
For example; last season after every home game Julian Alsop (CF) used to come into the bar and chat with the supporters (legend).
You also find that your local club wants you to get involved without sniffing out your pockets.
Last November I went on work experience with the club and everyone was welcoming, kind and friendly and up for a bit of banter. Funnily enough we went on a 6 game unbeaten run when I was there.

It is a generalisation, because most of you are like that, and either way... it is still wrong to be a plastic if you wanna go a different route.
Its not just about lower league clubs, which you lot seem tothink it is. It is fans such of clubs such as Fulham, Everton, heck even Chelsea when they are being taken the piss of by the likes of Scott (who has no right to in my eyes)

I just feel sorry for some fans really, they can make up any stories they want but the fact is, we can't say it's true or it's a load of wank cause it's the Internet. But deep inside they know they are the ones losing out because they have to resort to watching on TV and streams and will never feel the proper excitement and passion of going mental with thousands of other like minded people after scoring a late winner. It blows my mind that some people on here have never got to celebrate a goal with more than a few people.

Exactly, and it isnt just limited to the game. So much banter in the pubs and on trains and stuff on matchdays, love it.

Fire away, can't be any more controversial than some of the previous stories in here. It's been like an episode of Jeremy fucking Kyle.

Re: Do you live in your clubs city/town?
What irritates me is when a United/Liverpool/Chelsea etc fan will come up and say "Hahaha, Derby lost, they're rubbish, we won 5-0 at the weekend, did you see how many times they replayed the goals on Sky?". I don't live in Derby myself having been born in Skegness, and never have. I first went to a Derby game in 97, when I was 7 years old with my grandad and dad who were born in Derby and lived their most of their lives and went to the old baseball ground for years. I now have a season ticket and go to as many away games each season as financially possible, only to be told my teams shit by "fans" who can just about name a first eleven and catch the games on Sky if they're not doing something else. I know that they're never going to change their mind and support another team so I get on with supporting Derby and let them get on with it.Glory hunting seems to have been passed down through generations aswel, so in the case of saying "my dad supports United and took me to a United game once, even though he's from Plymouth" just means you're a second generation glory supporter. Football would be much fairer if 90% of "fans" didn't follow a top 4 team.
