Post by Guest Sat Jan 29, 2011 12:19 pm

He can still change his mind. Maybe it was just a moment of madness, brought on by his money seeking agent? (clutching at straws here)

Maybe he will develop a truly lethal partnership with Suarez and then Liverpool might go on a fantastic run of games. Maybe we will offer him a new contract like Man United did with Rooney and convince him to stay. Maybe we will win the Europa Cup and finish 5th or 4th in the league. Who knows, maybe a speech from Reina or a kick up the arse from Kenny could sort him out?

It's not over yet. Right now, I just want to hear from Torres himself. I want him to give us reasons for handing in a transfer request. He owes it to the fans who've stuck by him through thick and thin. The fans who sing his song, the fans who bounced in unison after he scored against Blackpool, what a sight that was.

The lyrics to 'You'll Never Walk Alone' couldn't be more fitting right now.

When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
    Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
    And you'll never walk alone
    You'll never walk alone

When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
    Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
    And you'll never walk alone
    You'll never walk

    You'll never walk
    You'll never walk alone.

Who needs a target man? He is skillful with his feet, quick and a class finisher.

    Also he's not small, 5'11.

While, i think he's a good player. I don't think he'll cope. Torres suited this position because he had a bit of everything, decent height, speed, finishing, skill. Suarez needs support and I doubt he'll get decent support from Kuyt and Ngog.

Loyal in a different way I meant. Plus he didn't demand to leave Gronigen from what I know. I doubt he demanded to leave whichever club he played for in Uruguay either.

Luke especially. I can just picture him now sitting on the edge of his little office chair, watching youtube videos of Torres.

You know what's worse? When he does make his debut for Chelsea, can you imagine how painful it will be to hear the Chelsea fans singing the Torres song? It'll feel like you're being stabbed.

This season and parts of last season, yes. But think back to 07/08, 08/09 where he could lead an attack single-handedly.

Post by Guest Sat Jan 29, 2011 12:28 pm

In my pissed and emotional state I was contemplating the nature of idolatry.

We've all seen those 100 players that 'shook' the Kop. We've all had heroes and villains in our lifetime. Whether approaching from Walton Breck or Anfield Road and you see those flat floodlights and you know you're home. Whether you've walked from Bodmin Road or from Brummendaal, Anfield is a place where the imagination takes control. Evoked are those famous nights from times past. Each generation has their moment, some more than others.

Each period in Liverpool's history has an epoch-making moment. From Liddell to St John to Dalglish, through to Fowler, Gerrard and Torres. Those though are moments. Times when time indeed stands still. Those times contribute to making small marks into an indelible and glorious history. However, as the adage suggests, one swallow a summer does not make.

We may indeed be resigned to losing a player worth his weight in adoration, but we must also concede that, at present, we cannot offer him the stellar football he both craves and has become accustomed to. As with the galaxy around us, as one star fades, another burns brightly in its place. Ignoring the minutiae, that star was born today as the kids were wolfing down their weetabix.

If the fate of our sweet prince is pre-determined from this point forward, we must not lose sight of what he gave us, what he did for us, and how he gave us something to worship. A breed of player so rarely seen. United in both his ability to violate the goal and the hearts of the fans that pay the hard-earned to see 'The Kid' perform.

Some of the comments I've read and heard, have been utterly shameful and an affront to what it is to be a fan of this most wonderful of clubs. We cannot control his fate. It has and never will be in our hands. But if he does depart it will only leave a bitter aftertaste, knowing that we've lost someone desperately special to us all. It might sound like hyperbole, it might sound a little OTT. But when you become a Liverpool supporter, you sign a contract unlike any other.

Liverpool will exist without Torres, Liverpool will undoubtedly prosper if he stays, but do not let this issue cloud your judgement that any player transcends the ethos and magic that it gives us all.

Our religion is one of many gods, and only one church.

The words of Tennyson's Ulysses seem particularly poignant in the circumstances:

Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in the old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are,
    One equal-temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Yah, imagine him with Suarez though. Suarez makes a shitload of chances per game. And I mean ALOT, from all the games I have watched of him. Whenever he has a ball and space, he practically is already there making a chance. I think Torres and Suarez would complement eachother really well and both players could thrive under it, especially with Gerrard and Miereles behind them.

I wonder how Torres will react to scoring a goal if he plays on Wednesday.

Tbh, this whole thing happened with Tevez, no one is talking about him leaving now though. Even though he submitted a transfer request.

It's not because it's the Eredivisie. Give him the open space he would have access too on the wing, and he will do his thing.

Anyway, getting kind of quiet in here, may watch another Ajax match since i'm on Suarez' dick today. shifty

I don't particularly like Liverpool, but this season I have had a very soft spot for you guys. Maybe me being a Pole as well as growing up in American culture, I have a natural affinity to underdogs, and clubs at a poor place, which Liverpool were/are this season. Plus one of my favorite non-Polish players are about to sign for you guys. What a Face

Liverpool don't have a player like Suarez in their team, Suarez will make Liverpool alot better than they are to be honest. Liverpool lack skillful attackers and adding Suarez in just going to solve that problem.

I am kind of glad that Suarez is most probably going to Liverpool, there were two clubs I could've really seen him succeed at, Arsenal and Liverpool and if not Arsenal, i'm happy it is Liverpool.
