Joe Cole has offered rousing support for under-fire boss Roy Hodgson, by insisting the entire Liverpool squad is scrapping to save his job.
The Reds manager has been at the centre of mounting intrigue at Anfield, with the latest speculation suggesting the club’s American owners are considering appointing Kenny Dalglish as an interim replacement.
But the team responded with one of their best performances of the season to come from a goal behind to record an important New Year’s Day victory over Bolton.
And afterwards match-winner Cole said: “We are all right behind the manager, he’s a gentleman and we want to do well for him and the club and we showed that against Bolton with the fight and togetherness.
“We are all in this together. We are all responsible – win, lose or draw. So it’s on all of us and we are all there fighting for this club, for the manager, the owners, and fans.
“We all want the same thing and when we are all singing from the same hymn sheet that’s when clubs move forward.
“Hopefully now we can take what we did in the second half against Bolton and kick on.”
Liverpool’s owners, the Fenway Sports Group, have always maintained their support for Hodgson, and it is thought ideally they would like to give him a full season to prove himself.
But reports this weekend suggest they will consider appointing a temporary boss if results continue to slide, with Dalglish the clear favourite amongst the fans to assume such a role.
The owners will not act hastily, and that will offer Hodgson some breathing space as he attempts to inspire his side, and continue the massive improvement shown in the performance against Bolton.
But he knows he must produce results quickly, otherwise the clamour for Dalglish among a large section of fans may prove irresistible to the owners.

Anfield chairman Tom Werner and supremo John Henry believe the best way forward is to land rising stars, a policy that was begun when Kenny Dalglish took a hand to recruit Raheem Sterling from QPR and Charlton’s Jonjo Shelvey.

Was it Enrique that kicked the ball at Pennant for the first goal?
I can remember some of the lot on the old forums (who are still on here i should add ) were saying we should sell Gerrard as he is past it and does not have the pasion anymore.....well he stayed and is still our savious
I'm one of those.
And pretty sure what I said is if he doesn't prove he cares about the club by the end of the season I'd tell him to get the fuck.
He didn't give a flying fuck last season, it was a pathetic attitude from a captain.

Same happened vs Wolves, he's not exempt from criticising just because of how good he is. If he doesn't put the effort in, which happens regularly now, he should be called up on it.

Same happened against Wolves have you know football brain he had been out for what 6 weeks or something its his first game back from injury and just cause he did not run the game like he did against Bolton he also Cramped up against Wolves in the 2nd half cause he was just back and had not played for a while, it takes fukin time to get back to match fitness does it not, and what do you mean he does not put the effort in and it happens lots of times now he cant be expected to do it all himself he plays in midfield now deeper than before and he cant play there and do things further up the park all the time and just cause he does not make things happen like Scoring a goal or making a Goal does not mean he is not runing about tackling and put in the effort.
