Cardinals have to be at the bottom of that list. Need to check it. They spend, but they won't go Yankees style.

Re: Chat Thread
It's funny how in American sports I don't mind if my teams spends a ridiculous amount of money, but in football I'd rather they spend conservatively and use our academy to bring in the youth instead. (which they do)
I think this has to do mostly with there being National Teams in football.
There are in baseball and basket ball too but I think there is less of an impact. There are only 3 teams in Mexico that put a lot of money, time and effort into their youth system. Chivas, Pumas, and Atlas. Most teams have two or three players that have started their careers in one of these teams.
Actually, all you have to do is look at Mexicans who played in Europe in recent years, most made their debut for those three teams.
Chivas: Hernandez, Vela, Davila, Maza, Salcido, Bravo
Atlas: Guardado, Rafa Marquez, Pardo, Rivera, Borgetti
Pumas: Moreno, Torrado, Fonseca, Juarez
With varying degrees of success (in fact most weren't very successful) but it is what it is. Players who originate from these teams make up the national team almost in it's entirety.

TBH, most Americans don't care about anything outside of the MLB. If they hear we win the gold in the olympics they might say, "oh, cool." Latin America is where it's at for baseball, for real.

Re: Chat Thread
ESPN D (Spanish language ESPN) shows games from the Winter Leagues in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Always like having them on when doing something else (this is pretty much how I watch baseball, it allows you to do that really by being so slow paced)
There was actually a scare that we'd lose the Puerto Rican leauge in it's entirety a few years back. Ceased it's operation for an entire year. Then they came back.
Rafael Furcal (ex Dodger current Cardinal) would play for Aguilas (Domincan Republic) and he used to be one of my favorite players so would watch mostly to see him play.
A few MLB players take the Winter Leauge route during the off season. Especially those coming back from injuries looking to get back into shape before the pre season.

MLB might have a lot of money, but I feel that it's been surpassed by the NFL in terms of popularity. The latter is way more fun to watch anyway, even with all the breaks in play.

Yeah, but baseball in Latin America is almost as big as football, and they produce some of the best players on the planet. Completely understand how people see baseball as boring. I played for a lot of years so it's different for me.

He went on some climbing tour with other guys for two weeks. Now they have to go through the gold mine to get back and the mine's security don't let them go on for whatever reason. Going back is not an option and they barely have enough food and water
