Bayer Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle looks set to join before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday in a deal approaching £20 million, a move that might even see Daniel Sturridge allowed to move out on loan. Yossi Benayoun and Florent Malouda are, though, likelier to move on.

If we do get him then hopefully we can still keep Sturridge.
You would have way too many players then.

Also what was the point in signing Moses if you're now going back to get Schurrle?

Can Schurrle play in the attacking three places as well as the striker position? If so then he would be good for rotation and to bring on if we wanted to start with Torres and Sturridge on the wing although we would need to sell/loan out Benayoun and Malouda.

Would rather just keep Sturridge although I've never seen Schurrle and Sturridge might not want to renew his contract, although I would rather we sell him instead of loaning him out if it was because of him not renewing his contract.

I don't know why you want to keep Sturridge so much, he's average. Schurelle is 10 times the player.

Yeah he can but all those roles have enough players for them. You say rotation but there's still 3 or 4 others that would need to be rotated as well in the same positions and RDM is hardly the sort to chop and change teams much. He clearly has his favourites.

Schurrle is good but keeping Sturridge and saving £20m+ is the wiser option, Schurrle wouldn't vastly improve the team so it's just another body in front of someone else. They must know for certain that he's going to leave or something, can't see why else you would still be trying to sign Schurrle right now. Maybe in January but not now.

Sturridge is looking pretty good, seems to have worked on his defensive duties a lot which was the main issue. Combined really well with Hazard and Mata v Newcastle iirc. If he does leave on a free you would still get compensation or some shit like that cause he's under 24 so it's not that bad, still would be a big loss though.

Edit: Just saw that Sturridge might be going on loan. facepalm In which case it's okay I guess if he does go on loan.

He still showed very poor decision making Marvin that was the main issue, he is extrememly greedy when he's on the ball, you can even see the likes of Torres not making the same kind of runs because they're not confident Sturridge will try and find them.

In the Newcastle match? Yeah that's true, he took shots instead of passing but in fairness so did Mata and Hazard. He was eager to impress when he came on and at least his were closer on target.

Also have to remember that he's not been playing much football compared to other players his age. Things like decision making, etc will come with time and experience. If it was the other way round and he a great team player but lacked ability, like Moses for example, then I would be worried and probably be the first one to say get rid.

Just seems a bit silly to get rid when he's quite clearly a quality player.

Lampard could do a job at least until January, but we really do need more spark deeper down the field.

Fuck knows what's happened to Ivanovic but he looks like he's aged by 10 years during preseason, so unbelievably slow.

Hopefully we keep him as against Newcastle he played well when partnered with Mikel and with loaning out Essien we would be short of players in that position.

Actually reading that again, he's pretty much just confirmed that he only stayed for the money. Had clubs come in after him and he rejected them all despite being told he wasn't going to be part of the team. He's happy picking up his wages and playing as one of the over aged players in the U21 team? That's pretty fucked up.
