Re: Chat Thread
Sorry, I should of probably related it to what we were talking about or gave an example.
Okay, Cam's predicament is that he's basically embarrassed to go in front of the whole school and talk about anime because he believes it's geeky. Most of the users agree that they would also be embarrassed or shared his feeling of horror.
But thinking about it objectively, why is anime anymore geeky than any other form of media entertainment?
The answer is, it's not.
But thanks to our social interactions with others, for whatever reason a lot of us has attributed anime with the "geeky" tag.
The subjective meaning we have placed on the behavior of watching anime, takes precedence over whatever objective truth there is about people who watch anime. Does that makes sense?
Okay, here's another example. Young teens start smoking cigarettes despite the fact that they know it's bad for them. Why do they do it? Maybe because it makes them look cool, or the cool kids smoke. The subjective meaning, cool kids smoke, takes precedence over the objective truth, smoking is bad for you.
nawmean?

How exactly did posting on a forum get a stigma attached to it? Don't see how something like Facebook is any different at its base.

I think it's because you're talking to random strangers instead of people you "supposedly" know.Rei Andros wrote:How exactly did posting on a forum get a stigma attached to it? Don't see how something like Facebook is any different at its base.

It was like being racist because you feel you have a duty to be racist. Like, his friend obviously liked the girl to kiss her but then he realised he's not supposed to like her and so remembered to be racist about it.
He used to be fine, but he's turned into a complete immature idiot.

You should find a picture of a girl wearing one of those "I love nerds" t-shirts. Of course they don't love actual nerds, just scrawny pale guys who wear those thick framed glasses. Apparently they're all the rage nowadays.

Just had a look at that post. I see it brought out two more casual racists.

Fine example of what Che was talking about I think. 3/4's of the "friends" I have on FB are people I never said a word to in high school.
