@stevebartram1: Confirmed: Phil Jones has had surgery on a knee meniscus tear sustained in training that will require 6-8 weeks of rehabilitation. #MUFC

Umm, what's with the sarcasm? No one said we won't get through this but obviously the less injuries the better, especially at the back.

Never understood why everyone so suddenly everyone rated Jones shit, he was very good in the 1st half of the season. Just because he was poor in the 2nd half of the season doesn't make him a bad player.

Re: Manchester United FC Official Thread
He was good for like the first 5 games he played in, hardly the first half of the season. People think he's shit (and rightly so) because he showed that his positioning is erratic and his technical ability is average on top of that he cost 15 million, people mock the prices Liverpool paid for Henderson and such, Jones is just as bad.

Re: Manchester United FC Official Thread
Jones scored as many goals as henderson and probably played half as much and he is not even a midfielder
his positioning was erratic at times but his last ditch tackles were quality. he was played out of position for most of the season at RB or CM

Tim Howard was a better striker then Torres last season, amirite???
No. The goals argument is a ridiculously pathetic one otherwise we'd be saying Vermaelen is the best defender in the world.
Also, Jones played pretty much the same amount of games as Henderson last season, nowhere near half as much.
I think Jones is okay though, hopefully he'll develop over time, and will actually have a set position.

Fully right at this point, but I'm 99 percent confident he'll do well with us for some years and we'll look back on the money as not bad.Theo Filippo wrote:He was good for like the first 5 games he played in, hardly the first half of the season. it isnt when we are comparing a midfielder to a defender... if henderson was a defender then yes the goal argument would be irrelevant, but eventhough it isnt the biggest factor it is still a factor. the fact jones managed as many goals as a midfield shows the weakness in henderson. i think everyone would take jones over henderson, since not only is jones better but he can play multiple positions

Yes it is a stupid arguement. Vermaelen scored more goals last season then Modric and as many as Silva in the league last season, does that make him a better player?
I'm not saying that Jones isn't a better player than Henderson but it's a stupid way to show it.

Funny this conversation comes up, read an article last night with some guy explaining why Phil Jones is not the next Franco Baresi.
It was the most pointless article, who the fuck thinks Phil Jones is the next Baresi?

as i said its not the biggest factor but it is a factor please read carefully, you telling me you dont look at a players goal records when comparing them? thats stupid (again, goals isnt what makes a player good but it is something you look at)
but in the end i dont care enough about this so i wont go on

Yea I do, if it's a sensible comparison. Comparing defenders to anyone concerning goals is pointless imo.

Comparing the goals they've scored..
One plays for a United side seconds away from the title that scored 89 goals, the other plays for an 8th placed side that scored 47. Genius logic. Even ignoring the fact neither were expected to score many last season.

again.. goals are PART of the comparison not THE comparison. since Jones also played midfield (and scored playing there) it isnt like comparing Modric to Varmaelen

There's nothing wrong with Henderson tbh. Most of the arguments about him being poor are exactly the same as we heard for Lucas.

if you dont want to look at goals then tell me what you want to look at cause jones tops henderson in every area. hence why one is playing "for a United side seconds away from the title that scored 89 goals" and "the other plays for an 8th placed side that scored 47"

Yes but Lucas has scored no goals this season and van Persie has scored 4.Dan wrote:There's nothing wrong with Henderson tbh. Most of the arguments about him being poor are exactly the same as we heard for Lucas.

That's completely illogical. Wes Brown played for United when Agger was playing for us. Does that mean Wes Brown is better?

If you think goals are a way of judging defenders fair enough.

no cause Agger was superior in his footballing ability. the thing is if agger was available we would be after him. no one is after henderson

Yes because he moved to Liverpool a year ago, why would he be available again?
