I've been playing this game non-stop since I bought it. I just purchased a wheel for it this week as well.

It's a beeyotch to get used to it, but after you do it does take the game to another level. With the controllers you have maybe 5 levels of threshold when it comes to steering, braking, and accelerating. With the wheel and the gas/brake pedals you have more like 100 or more. Your driving will become 10x's smoother once you adapt to the wheel and it starts to feel natural. It takes a while though.
