Tbf. He's been ill, which sort of makes you question why he's there. I'd never even heard of Sordell before he picked the squad.
Jordan Rhodes, unfortunately ... he doesn't qualify for the English olympic squad.

5 Welshmen, and he was on the standby list...Jelavić7|EFC wrote:Danny wrote:Surely we have better strikers under the age of 23 (apart from Welbeck) than Sturridge.

Sordell over Rhodes, seems legit.

Re: Football at the 2012 Olympics
Sordell pissed me off. He missed runs, missed passes and just.. wasn't good. Annoying to watch. My dad, apparently not knowing too much about olympic football, kept asking me why Rooney wasn't playing, then proceeded to lambast the fact that Team GB turned out to be Giggs and B-side youngsters

"I'm surprised to hear that, coming from Great Britain. They are well known for their physicality and fighting spirit, not Senegal," he said. "I can't say I saw a bad tackle on the pitch. All I saw was my players trying to get the ball in a fair way. There was absolutely no bad tackles on the pitch."

I'm pretty sure that the Scottish FA made it clear that they didn't want any of their players to take part for Team GB.

Great, let's have a player who's been alright in the Championship as our sub striker in a major tournament.Cam wrote:Sordell played well for Watford
How Stuart Pearce got England U21s to the Euros final in 2009 is a fucking mystery.

Haven't watched any games yet. Are GB terrible like the England team in the Euro 2012?

They try to play football, but aren't really all that good at it. Far more positive than England though, although the defence is pretty... unstable.

We actually have players capable of keeping the ball. Defending is dodgy and no presence up front.ahlycotc wrote:Haven't watched any games yet. Are GB terrible like the England team in the Euro 2012?

The crowds (besides GB) look shit, why hold games in OT and the like when the Olympics are in London, do Loftus Road and Craven Cottage not work well enough?

Events aren't just held in London.
They've picked 8 football stadiums from 8 areas, hence why Wembley's the only stadium in London hosting football.

I know, the only events that really should be held outside the host city are things like sailing or whatever if the city is inland, but for football it doesn't make sense. Why are games being held in Glasgow?

That's a good point tbh, if the matches were all held in London, you'd be more likely to get the fans there. Maybe it's to stop congestion

If we're talking about it being Britain, it's in the Scot's country too. How are they going to see any events if they're all in London?
And as Cam said, is hosting 8 football matches on the same day, all in London, a good idea?

What's "being Britain" the host city is London, not London/Belfast/Glasgow, why would you hold events hundreds of miles away?

Oh well, if you can sell out Old Trafford for at least one game, you're hardly going to host everything in London, including small stadiums like Fulham's and QPR's.

It would be hell if they had all those matches on in the same city at the same time, and GB has some of the best stadiums in the world, like OT, why not use them instead of Craven Cottage?

You can only sell out big stadiums when GB are playing, even Brazil couldn't get a big crowd.

Still wouldn't make sense to put it in a shitey stadium when double the amount of tickets can be sold.dena wrote:Danny wrote:Oh well, if you can sell out Old Trafford for at least one game, you're hardly going to host everything in London, including small stadiums like Fulham's and QPR's.

Re: Football at the 2012 Olympics
Craven Cottage is 25k, Upton Park is 35k, WHL is like 40 I think, Stamford Bridge has a big capacity too, unless GB are playing or it's the semi/final (which will probably be in Wembley) I doubt you'll see over 40k people at a Olympic football match.

UAE - Uruguay was 51k (increased due to it being before GB obviously). Spain - Japan was 37,000.dena wrote:Craven Cottage is 25k, Upton Park is 35k, WHL is like 40 I think, Stamford Bridge has a big capacity too, unless GB are playing or it's the semi/final (which will probably be in Wembley) I doubt you'll see over 40k people at a Olympic football match.

Re: Football at the 2012 Olympics
As you pointed out one game is adjusted for inflation, here's how I'd do it.
The tournament as of right now is being held in 6 stadiums, lowest capacity is 32k (Coventry)
I'd have them all in London; so you can have em like this...
Stamford Bridge
Upton Park
White Hart Lane
Emirates
Wembley
I feel like that could work, you can throw in another stadium (Craven Cottage or some shit) to hold group games in and then for the KO stage use the first four stadiums and hold the semi/final in Wembley. I get that the IOC/FA have their reasons for scheduling the games the way they did but I don't understand having games in Wales and Scotland.
