Looked at a few stats from last night, passing ones stood out.

Obviously Pirlo made the most (over a hundred). I think Balzaretti was their fifth highest on low 80.

England's 5th highest was Andy Carroll, who played half the game.

Shows you how shit England are at passing when Carroll (who has 50% accuracy and played a fraction of the game is your 5th highest passer).

If England had taken bloody Carrick with them how different the games could have been

And to think that two English friends of mine ganged up on me on Facebook after the Ukraine match and tried to convince me England were a talented group of players and a great team (on the level of France).

Yeah, he realised the squad was shite and unable to keep the ball, which explains the way we played. God knows why he didn't take the one player available to him who knows what ball retention is though.

Come on Glen, you can't possibly think England is anywhere near the level of France.

You're acting as if France are fucking world beaters.

They weren't particularly great against us, dominated an average Ukraine side, and lost to an average Sweden side, and forgot to turn up against Spain.

On a player to player basis sure... But the teams are not that different, France have been pretty awful for 2 final tournaments in a row, England have been sent out in the first knockout round in the same tournaments. Seems on a national team stage the players you have at your disposal matters little when the chemistry isn't there, which is not that different from anywhere else.

Maybe they're just playing Ultimate Team?

I expected a lot from France to be honest, 23 games unbeaten prior to the tournament I thought they'd have a go and not set out defensively against Spain.

You parked the bus against France. That's like saying Barcelona is not good because they couldn't beat Chelsea.

There is a reason France came into the tournament on the back of a 15+ match unbeaten streak (I don't remember the actual number). Like you said, they dominated an average Ukraine side (which is more than you can say about England). I didn't watch the Sweden match, so I will not comment on it. Beating Spain is not easy task for anyone. They played overly defensive and it didn't work (thankfully). They are still miles ahead of England on talent.

All France did was shoot from distance.

They were expected to win that group- quite easily with full points probably, judging some peoples comments before our game against them.

Yeah, they are ahead of us on talent. So are Holland (who obviously had a much tougher group) and they were absolutely awful.

It's fair to say Laurant Blanc chickened out and went defensive against Spain, leaving only 2 attacking players in Ribery and Benzema on the pitch. France are still better than England and probably only Rooney, Joe Hart, Lescott and Cole would get into the French team when you go head to head.

Yeah obviously they're not as good as Barcelona, but everyone expected them to absolutely hammer us. Ended up the only chance inside the box that wasn't from a set piece was Benzema's curler that Gerrard deflected over.

he was average at best in the group games.. against greece he was HORRIBLE! worst performance i have ever seen by him, giving the ball away constantly and losing the ball in dangerous areas.

how you can say that i do not know, you clearly didnt watch the matches. and i had a close eye on Schweinsteiger too since he is in my fantasy team

Solid, because he played as a pure defensive midfielder in most games which were dominated by Germany. As I said, Khedira's done all of the offensive/creative work. Germany didn't really have to defend so it's been quite a calm tournament for Schweini. To claim Pirlo will outshadow him considering the tournament of both players is an outraging claim

Edit: As ViVa said, he's been really poor vs Greece as well.

I did watch all the matches . The Greece game is an isolated incident IMO as Germany played with very little concentration (conceded two goals to Greece, lol)

He wasn't spectacular by any means, but he was decent in the group stages. Outshined by Khedira though
