The selling club might not be willing to sell for that amount, but they don't simply reject the offer then and negotiations are over. They may come back and say "No, £15m would be more reasonable", or reject the offer and wait for United to make another bid of say £14m. It's possible they could hold out for £16m and United eventually pay it, but only an idiot wouldn't try to save millions of pounds via negotiations.

You think it's worth risking the negotiations for 1 million rather than just doing the deal? I already said above so lets say we're putting the bid in for negotiations sake.. and it comes down to something like 15 million I think we might as well put 16 in which they've asked for and do the deal.

I suppose if we can pay less we should though.
