I'm in division one..... personally for me what annoys me more is the cheek of people who constantly just pass to the striker, do one two pass then try to lob it over and run on goal with their 90 pace striker. All I'm saying is fuck that. I can handle it 95% of the time but sometimes the AI has to mess it all up....like those awkward moments where it lands to your defender then he refuses to pass or just does some 2 foot pass...then their striker gets it and scores.

But yeah.... I dunno what you think of when you say "excessive" possession football.... but it could just be that they're good at keeping possession....or you're not good at getting it.

Obviously if people pass it around the defence/goalie it's hard to get it back...but IMO what I see most with division 1 players is that they are one of two things, or both. The ability to multi task and manage your defence so that you can chase down and pressurise the opposition, restrict their options and dictate where they go. There's also the ability to be agile on the ball, have creativity, good skills and play with variety, making the opposition second guess your moves (which means eventually you'll catch them out or at the least have more space).

For me, I would do what you do to an extent. Baiting players is a bit part of the way I not only win the ball back...but also how I keep hold of the ball and create chances. But I wouldn't say I just pass it around and play "0 risk" football... most people I play will make it very hard to keep possession. What you're talking about is simply a more intelligent way to play than gung-ho "let's run forward no matter what and see what happens".
