Most likely to be fake. They are still doing bets on him joining different clubs.Paulinho wrote:Is it true Hazard said he'll be wearing blue next season?

http://www.goal.com/en/news/462/netherlands/2012/05/08/3088412/ajax-defender-vertonghen-tottenham-are-my-absolute-favourite
Vertonghen's basically begging them to come to an agreement
"Tottenham are absolutely my favourite," Vertonghen told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "[But] the Ajax board are asking for a very big amount for a player whose contract is running out in year.
"I trust that both Tottenham and Ajax will put some water in the wine and they will soon reach an agreement."
"I owe much to Ajax, but I've always given my whole heart and soul to the club," Vertonghen continued.
"My appreciation for the club and the fans is great. It would be terrible if my farewell is marred or distorted because Ajax [are stubborn] with the asking price.
"Of course I want Ajax to gain financially, but the amount that Tottenham want to pay, I think - perhaps with a little extra – is very reasonable.
"Next year I can leave for free. I hope that this awareness is there, because a transfer lingering for weeks like Maarten Stekelenburg's [to Roma] seems very harsh.
"He joined at the end of Roma's preparation [for the new season]. I want to be able to blend in with the other players at Spurs from the start [of pre-season training]."
"Tottenham is a fantastic football club that has the tradition I want," Vertonghen explained.
"Ajax was the perfect club for me, but Spurs is already very close nearby. They buy young, eager, offensive-minded players."

Vertonghen isn't exactly needed. He'd just be a welcome addition.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
Btw I'd prefer M'Vila over Song, he's much better defensively than him and pretty good technically and a good passer as well. If Song were to leave Wilshere/Arteta could play those balls to the striker just as well I feel, although Song has a really sexual technique for them.

Two things -
A - Well, 11 years is pretty recent in a 125 year history.
B - He was with my favourite Australian team this season, and it frustrates me how shit he is.

I'd cry if Song left, even if M'Vila came. Arteta is simply not capable of playing those through-balls and it's ridiculous to hope that Wilshere can have as much an impact as Song has had this season after being out for almost twelve months. Also, no one offers what Song does in terms of a combination of attacking and defensive prowess. He's a complete midifielder and that makes him very valuable.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
Yeah I completely agree with the last part but I think you watch French football quite often? I've seen M'Vila for France a couple of times and also for Rennes, he's a great passer of the ball, although more deep-lying. I love Song and all but if he were to leave because he is afraid of competition or because of another reason I don't think he'll be missed too much on the pitch (definitly emotionally though).BladeGunner wrote:I'd cry if Song left, even if M'Vila came. I don't see why you're saying Arteta's not able to play those balls, he's been sitting deep for most of the season and kept the play ticking by playing short passes, his long balls are really good as well, I remember him playing them for Everton a lot. His vision is good enough too, if he joins the attack when M'Vila's covering him I'm pretty sure he'd be capable of playing those lofted through balls as well.
Of course this is all hypothetical and it would be fantastic if he stayed and M'Vila arrived.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
I get the feeling Wenger is answering back to criticism from Arsenal fans regarding recent transfer business (as in, not buying many players) by getting these two deals done early. However, I feel this means he'll spend all summer not actually signing anyone else, and if RVP and Song go, it's not very good at all.
RVP and Song will stay though, imo.

If Song leaves then you will lose the countless "dink over the defence" passes to RVP

Song has been defensively poor for a while. He pushes up too far and it's no surprise we concede so many goals on the counter attack.

Nah If it meant getting M'Vila and losing Song, I'd rather not get him, Song is our midfield.

I try to watch French football as much as I can but I haven't seen enough of M'Vila. Having read you and others' evaluation of him though, he seems like he'd do a good job in Arteta's current role or next to Arteta as part of a midfield three. I think he'd be a great addition, I just don't want it to be at the expense of Song.
I think Arteta's technically very gifted but is a little lacking in the vision department. His short and long passing is exceptionally accurate but I've rarely seen him get players behind the defence with a through ball. I think it would be a bit of a gamble to move him behind the striker after he's had such a great year in a deeper role. Having said that, I've just realised that we still have Rosicky who's in very good form and could possibly still offer enough penetration if he was to be supported by Arteta and M'Vila so maybe Song going isn't as big a deal as I first thought. Plus, as you said earlier, we have Wilshere returning.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
The goals we've conceded on the counter have come from Arteta not playing, when Song goes forward it's Arteta's job to sit back and he does it wonderfully. But it's been Rasmey and Song recently and Ramsey aint good defensively. Yes M'Vila will sit and not go forward, but losing our most improved player over the last 3 seasons or so? Not the way forward unless we was getting Alonso.Sarmz wrote:Song has been defensively poor for a while. He pushes up too far and it's no surprise we concede so many goals on the counter attack.

If we lose Song and van Persie we will lose our leading scorer and assister. We won't lose them though.
As for Vertonghen, that stupid son of a bitch can go to Tottenham, stupid filthy cunt, you only come to Arsenal if you hate Tottenham.

Don't worry about Vertonghen, he'll be playing in Europa League in his first season with them anyway that's his business.

Arshavin flirted with Tottenham for half a year before he came to Arsenal.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
Song is one of my favourite human beings
If Wenger has the mental elasticity to play him in a more forward role while M'vila covers his angus, with Arteta/Wilshere also there, that's a fucking midfield
